Description

A tried and true road-plus standard, with a fresh new casing

Representing the pinnacle of WTB's dirt-centric Road Plus tires, the 650b Byway delivers supple plus-size traction and smooth riding characteristics farther into the dirt.

Blending a slick road tire with intermediate, diamond-shaped peaks and more substantial side knobs provides optimal traction on asphalt, without washing out once off the road.

Take your tires to the next level with SG2

This version of the 650b Byway features WTB's all-new SG2 puncture protection. This new protection layer is a lightweight, ultra-thin nylon insert that provides bead-to-bead coverage to ensure all surfaces of the tire are provided with an additional level of defense against punctures.

Exactly how much more durable are they? Lab tests show the addition of the bead-to-bead SG2 puncture protection layer to a 120tpi casing provides 33% more sidewall protection and 17% more tread protection than the standard 60tpi offerings without SG2.

While SG2 is primarily a puncture protection layer, its tightly woven fibers also improve air retention, which prevents seeping at the sidewall and helps maintain pressure between rides.

Features:

  • Slick centerline for getting you to the dirt, and diamond side knobs for keeping you rubber-side-down when the terrain gets loose
  • Dual Compound DNA Rubber
  • WTB's new SG2 Puncture Protection for ultimate durability
  • Claimed weight: 577g

I use this particular tire on the front wheel with a WTB Venture on the rear for my gravel bike. I noticed a much smoother cruising tire feel up front immediately and was good in rain also. Not great on heavy gravel like WTB Venture but I don't ride that much in gravel.
