Low friction and excellent durability. Ride is comfortable and puncture resistant. Over three thousand miles and only 50percent wear.

Review by RainRider

exceptional commuter and training tire

I rode my carbon-framed racing bike to work most days of the week once the rain was mostly gone over the last 2 years (riding my beater commuter bike during the deep winter). I knew I needed serious flat protection since my commute took me through the marine industrial area of south Seattle into downtown on some of the crummiest, roughest, broken up streets in the city.

I did get one flat in about 1500 miles, a thin wire through the sidewall. But at great as that was, what blew me away was the feel of these tires. These are thick, heavy tires (I race on 200gm clinchers, these are 380gms on the 700x25's I use). I just expected them to feel like riding on marshmallows.

Instead, they rode and handled like decent higher-end clinchers. AND - these tires totally smoothed out those rough streets in a way I never could have imagined was possible. These are great tires for commuting if you ride a real bike.

This is the first tire I've managed to actually wear out, in over 15 years of commuting, training and racing. I LOVE this tire. Sure it's not the fastest, but how much time do you lose on the side of the road fixing a flat? You won't waste that time with the Durano Plus. I've worn through I think 3 pairs of these tires and looking for a few more sets! They are so good I just don't bother swerving for glass or debris anymore. They are so good I often forget to point out glass to riders behind me, much to their annoyance. -) Given their longevity, they must be the best value tire on the market as well!

Poor durability, poor customer service, poor value

Based on the reviews and specs, I expected these tires to last longer

than the Continental Grand Prix 4000 tires that I owned previously,

which lasted 2000 miles. The rubber in these tires is soft and

apparently much more susceptible to cuts than the Continental Grand

Prix tires. I quickly noticed that glass shards would stick in this

tire like glue. After only 144 miles (1 month), my back tire was

ruined by a small piece of glass. I picked out many similar pieces of

glass from the Continental Grand Prix tires which didn't end up

ruining the tire.

I emailed Schwalbe customer service 1 week ago

Hi, I purchased a set of Schwalbe Durano tires featuring the

RaceGuard protection belt that were rated to last approximately 6,500

miles. One of the tires is ruined after only 144 miles (1 month) due

to a tiny piece of glass slicing through all layers of the tire. I'd

like to return both tires for a refund. Please send me instructions

on how I can do this. Thank you.

No reply. Needless to day, I won't be buying any Schwalbe products

again.

I ride 'brevets'. 200 to 600K. This is my tire of choice. I'm 6'0 and 190 lbs and I'm hard on tires and wheels. My Schwalbe tires just got me thru an entire 200, 300, 400 and 600K season with no problems. Plus, they don't even look worn! I do admit I use the Durano Plus on the rear. I use a regular Durano on the front. My brevet bike is a Trek Chronus with 700-25s. I've also gone to the Durano Plus on my Madone in the rear, 700-23s, with an Ultremo in the front. On a recent trip to Chattanooga for the 3 State century ride, my Schwalbes got their test. A lot of debris was on the roads from the storms and the descents, as usual, were fast and winding. No worries. The tires performed superbly.

I have 2,500 miles on this set of tires and yesterday I got my first flat. NOT BAD. I rotate tires one a month.

The roads here in Denver have a lot of water on them from snow melt so it is hard to see what you are riding over. I flatted the rear tire due to some puncture through the side wall. This was the first flat I have had on this set of tires. I started riding them last July after my old Krylion Carbons got too thin to be trusted.

You do give up some handling with this tire over the Krylions, but gain lots longer life and and fantastic persistence to flat tires! This is not to say the handling is bad, I ride a lot of hills in the denver area, and do a lot of canyon descents, my decent speeds are on 1-3 miles an hour slower, not really a big deal. Wet traction is fine.

I am quite happy with my Durano plus tires 700x25, I would love it if I could get these in 700x28. I think I may get over 6,000 miles on this set of tires I got about 2,800 to 3,000 on the Krylions.

Great riding, great puncture resistance

I have ridden these for 2 months with 1 flat. This was after hitting a huge staple that went directly through the tire. Few tires on the market could have survived that. I patched the tube and have been riding on it ever since with no issues. I went to these after riding some 700 x 25 Marathon Plus tires for several months. The Duranos ride SO much better than the Marathon Plus tires. While the Marathon Plus may be SLIGHTLY more flat resistant, the ride quality, nimbleness and durability have made the Durano Plus 'my tire'. I am a daily commuter and have tried every 'puncture proof' tire on the market. I am impressively prone to flats. On other tires I have had up to 8 flats in a single month. For me, these are well worth the cost.
