This is my second Pearl Izumi Elite Barrier jacket, which I use for running. My other one is a prior year model and is holding up beautifully after 2 years of use. Here are a couple of differences between the two model years...
My older one had elastic at the wrists, where this one has a velcro closure. It's not as convenient having to adjust the velcro and have the tab flapping around (I have small wrists), but on the plus side it does allow you to undo the fastening and roll the sleeves up a bit if you get warm.
The other changes in design are mainly cosmetic - the white bend areas at the elbows and sides of upper back, for example. The zipper for the left chest pocket has also been moved a bit farther away from the main zipper, which provides easier access.
The zip-off sleeves are still my favorite part of this jacket, but one change that would be useful would be to change the direction of the zipper. It unzips from the top, neck end, but having it go the other way would allow for better venting and cooling in the armpit area if it were left partially unzipped as I often end up doing.
The material is great - light and breathable with the mesh panels, but you can tell you have an extra layer on, and it's nice when used during light rain or snow.
All in all, I love this jacket! )
