This is a nice heavy duty cutter. The handles are nicely padded and long enough to provide good leverage. It works well cutting cable with little effort. It works really well crimping cable ends. Sadly this does not work well at cutting housing. Every time I cut housing the sprirals get bent over and I have to use diagonal cutters to clean up the casing. If I don't do that, the bent edge ends up damaging the cable. I also end up spending more time filing the end flat. I have a cutter that I bought at half the price that works much better at cutting housing and leaves a nice clean edge that only needs a little clean up with a file. As a bonus, the cheaper cutter includes a built in awl that works great at opening up the housing edge. I expected a better tool at this price range.

I'm comparing this (the right tool) to a Dremel tool (not quite the right tool). The Dremel does cut the cable, but melts the sheathing a bit and leaves a rough edge - probably leading to additional friction on the cable. The Park tool is well made (As usual) and will help prevent damaging the new cable you just bought!

Well made tool. A necessity for the home mechanic. Cuts cleanly and easily. Good ergonomic grip.

If you are going to replace your cables, do it right and use this tool. I didn't and wasted my time and money. It makes cable replacement a lot easier. Worth the money. No frayed ends!

Makes pro level cable terminations. Something I've struggled to make perfect before.

I don't need them often, but one cut and it's laughable that I ever used anything else. A must have for the bike tool box.

Fixing, restoring older bikes.

I had bought an Amazon cheaper version some time ago but was never satisfied with it. The xlc brand often left cut ends jagged and rough. The Park Tool cutter leaves a clean, easy cut time and time again. You get what you pay for and I wish I had only paid once, not twice.

Must have this tool to make replacing or repairing derailleur and brake cables super easy. Heavy duty, makes perfect cuts of cables to length with clean edges, crimps the cable ends nicely.

For ye

Makes straight, accurate cuts on shift and brake cable housing. Also useful to uncrimp cable ends for reuse.

These are well made, of heavy-gauge steel. The molded plastic handles arent needed, but every tool these days has that.

Cuts cable great, cuts housing pretty clean but not perfect IMO (I admit I'm being fairly picky here). The next time I use this I will experiment with inserting a scrap piece of cable in the housing during housing cuts to try and minimize any crushing. The crimp function seemed to work fine. All in all it did the job and cable install was a success.

These cable cutters are awesome and I highly recommend them. Park Tool makes quality, professional grade tools and these cutters are no exception. I have a cheap pair of cable cutters that work OK, but these are far superior. The cable cuts easily and very clean.

This cutter works perfectly when cutting cables you need to not fray. I use it exclusively to cut my cables. I also use it to take off housing caps when you want to salvage them. I would not use it to cut housing since it will seal the ends.

Put off for long time getting them. Work great, get them.

Good tool. It sure beats struggling with a typical diagonal cutter which requires dressing up the cut. Well built, and should last a long time.

Although a no-frills tool, it is a solid sturdy tool that should perform well for years. I am a home bike mechanic and have maintained, repaired, and upgraded all my families and many of my friend's bikes for for many years.
