Reviews
The bell is obviously beautiful and is made well. Zero complaints with fit and finish. However, Im not sure its the loudest bell out there, as I find walkers dont consistently respond to multiple dings from a distance. Its a nice, piercing tone, and fairly pleasant to engage with. Ultimately, I love the aesthetics and would not choose something else!
I saw the Spurcycle Better Bell in my local bike shop and thought, Wow, people really pay that much?, but it intrigued me so I bought a used one off EBay. These things are amazing and everything you've read is true. The mounting seems complex, but is actually really simple. Hook the loop and tighten the screw. Once you have it firmly in place, hit the trigger, and you get rewarded with a nice, crisp, clear BINGGGGG! that seems to last for 30 seconds. If the note isn't crisp and clear, adjust the tension a little on the mounting screw. After buying and installing that first used bell, I was so impressed I bought three more from Western Bike Works to have one on each bike in the house.
I would say that overall I'm happy with the purchase. I think the price is definitely a little high. Only other complaint is you have to wait to do multiple rings in a row. When you try to hit it twice it gets muffled because it's still vibrating from first ring. The tone is pretty unique and I think a friendlier way to signal than all the other bells I have used. The look of the bell is sweet and installation was a piece of cake. Overall, I'd recommend as long as you are ok spending a little more than the average bell.
The sound is crisp and carries thru without being annoying. You wasn't want to use the bell to give a heads up to people without scaring them. And the minimalist design is also awesome. It could be a bit cheaper, but it is good quality.
I like to use a bell on my road bike to alert others I'm behind them-it seems to be a friendlier way than shouting to get someone's attention. This bell has a lovely sound-not the loudest out there, but loud enough to be heard several bike-lengths away, which is all that is needed. The real plus is that it is a good-looking, unobtrusive bell. The black color blends right in with my handlebars. Mounting is easy (be sure to read the instructions, as it is not as obvious as some other bells) and seems sturdy. Though pricey, I appreciate the beauty, and being all metal construction, I expect it to last longer than my prior bell with its rubber strap that broke and is not replaceable.
I bought the even more expensive black version for my super commuter 2017 Kona Roadhouse. It is a perfect accessory for this bike. Should last this lifetime and the next. No regrets.
This bell is excellent! Once you hear this bell you'll agree! Ever had to replace a bell from over use or plastic becomes brittle over the years? Ever broke a cheap one? These are the reasons to get this bell. Headphoners can even hear this bell.
I've had multiple bells in the past and they eventually break or stop working. I was looking for something that was a better build than the $12-$15 bells on the market that do not seem to last or are not reliable when I found the Spurcycle. Upon opening the package, the Spurcycle was much smaller than I expected, saving valuable space on my handlebars. The build quality was noticeable - it just feels like something that will last. The sound is exactly as described - loud and the carries. Was hesitant on spending this much on a bicycle bell but I can see this one lasting for years.
I got suckered into buying 2 knockoffs and I think this company wound up suing Asian firm over patent infringement. This one is superior and works great. Even 100 yards out, walkers, joggers hear it and react most all the time favorably. Get one for each bike.
I upgraded to this bell, as my previous bell was not reliable. This bell is solidly built and rings loud. The sound of the bell does not disappear immediately. It tapers off, so folks on the trails can hear it as you approach them from behind. It costs more than most bells, but is well worth the cost.
