I purchased my Ellipse wheelset from State Bicycle online, and I was quite happy at the time with the quality of the wheels and the price. However, Western Bike Works has much better sales, and at 20% off the price is unbeatable.
As for the wheelset, they completed my first fixie that I ride around town. I've ridden these wheels for about 100 miles now, and they feel very solid and smooth. I don't notice the weight of the wheels much, and in fact they seems very fast to me allowing me to maintain speeds of 24 - 26 mph on the road without too much trouble. Adjusting the bearings is simple with the included tool.
The only problem I had was with installing and removing my Continental Gatorskins. I've used these tires for years, but perhaps these tires were not made for these wheels because they were next to impossible to install and remove. Man, you require strong thumbs and sturdy tire levers to get these tires on and off. It seems the wheels are not as deep as my road bike's wheels, so the tires went on tight and only got tighter. I thought everything was fine until a flat tire revealed the true difficulty of removing the tire. I've since started using Vittoria Rubino Pro Slick folding tires, and these are much easier to install.
Nonetheless, I liked the wheelset so much that I bought a second Ellipse wheelset directly from Western Bike Works for the great price. These will help me build my second fixie. These are awesome wheels, when you use tires that install and remove easily. Keep in mind the lockring provided has French threads, so only this Mavic lockring fits the rear wheel. It's great that this lockring is now sold as a separate item for when you want to install a gear on each side of the rear wheel. I bought a couple of these Mavic lockrings for good measure.
