Still Riding Against the Wind
The Castelli Squadra Stretch Vest is their completely reengineered entry-level vest. A new coated ripstop fabric keeps the wind off the front and spray off the back, while the tightly knit side panels allow the vest to stretch to fit a wide range of shapes while keeping a close-to-body fit that eliminates fabric flapping in the wind. The collar is cut high and the back long for extra protection, and the color blocking of the stretch panels and the reflective details on the chest and tail give it an elegant design touch. This impossibly light vest keeps your wind-facing core warm while dumping excess heat through the mesh side panels.
Features:
- Coated ripstop nylon front and back to keep wind off.
- Tightly knit stretch panels on sides for perfect fit and ventilation.
- High collar to keep drafts out.
- Reflective details on chest and lower back for low-light visibility.
- Rated for 12-20°C / 54-68°F

Reviews
As pointed out in other reviews, this vest runs small, very small. I am 5'9" tall, 161 pounds, wear 34/32 pants in casual clothing and medium in the Pearl Izumi and Louis Garneau apparel I own. I ordered the large and can just barely zip it while sucking it in and holding my breath - no way could I ride with this on. Besides, I'd blow out a seam or the zipper in no time. I cannot imagine one size up, an XL, would be much improvement so I'd be in an XXL? How long would that vest be? The material is quite thin but the vest seems to very well made and is designed for packing and light weight. I understand the vest is designed to be form fitting to avoid billowing in the wind but I cannot imagine who this is sized to fit. The L marking is prominent on the garment so I spent some time trying to discern if this was a child's L. WesternBikeWorks return policy seems fair EXCEPT for shipping costs - I paid $3.68 to have it sent to me but returning the item will cost me $9.95 -??- Bad form, WBW!
P.S. I was required to submit a star rating. I have no idea how the vest would perform but I don't want to be unfair to Castelli - seems well made and likely works well for someone who can fit in it.
Castelli vest runs small. Order one size up if you do not want this skin tight. Vest has high collar that helps keep cold out. I do hear some flapping as this is to be expected on top during a ride. Overall I am pleased as it works better than a full windbreaker for me. Build quality is good.
The stretch vest is sized a bit small (I normally wear large but got the size XL) and it fits perfectly. Had minimal flapping when I get up to speed specially on the downhills and the weather is somewhere in the 50s or low 60s.
I bought this for my partner for Christmas. He usually wears a medium and occasionally a large. I ordered the large and it is definitely a race fit. It is very visible and folds up small to put in the pocket. Looks sharp but order a size up.
Used this for a ride between 32-40 deg f. I would have been miserable with out it. I do have a single issue with this, but more so because I am an odd shaped person, I have a very long torso and it isn't exactly long enough to stay down in the front. Normal people shouldn't have an issue with this
