An excellent pedal for those who want pedaling options for different kinds of rides without the need for specialized shoes.

I have three bicycles. One is a full suspension mountain bike, one is a gravel bike and one is a road bike. The mountain bike has flat pedals and other two have dual sided pedals. The dual sided pedals work well because, on any given day, I could be commuting, hiking, camping, club riding, etc. and I don't have to have or want special shoes for each type of ride. The pedals are well made. Plain shoes (street, tennis, hikers, sandals etc.,) do not slip off the flat side of the pedal and SPD equipped shoes easily clip in and out. I highly recommend them for their versatility and quality.

Excellent dual purpose pedal for both SPD and platform!

When I looked into choices of dual purpose pedals, the PD-EH500 pedals looked like they would work perfectly for me and I couldn't be any happier with my choice. Extremely easy SPD to lock and release when wearing my cleats and perfect size platforms with excellent grip for my everyday shoes. Unlike others I've owned in the past, these pedals are much easier to orientate between SPD and flat. The perfect commuting Ebike pedal for road and trail!

If you need a casual shoe compatible pedal that also features SPD when you need it, look no further. This pedal would pair perfectly to any bike you use causally and occasionally like to push.

A fantastic pedal for the money, versatile and easy to get in and out of. Bought these for myself, but ended up giving them to my wife who was transitioning to clipless pedals. Now I need another pair.

These are perfect for someone like me who wants one bike to do it all. When I go out for a workout ride or a long distance ride, I want to click in with spd cleats. But when I want to take a leisurely ride with my wife, I like to wear street clothes and sandals. These pedals will do either. They are also pretty light for a combo pedal. Well done Shimano!

Excellent pedal If you want to transition to clipless technology. I use it for mountain biking, although believe primary purpose is for road. The flat surface allows me to keep pedaling if I'm having difficulty clipping in - which I usually don't.

Well designed two sided spd pedal

I purchased these pedals to change out existing ones on a Trek FX while riding more during covid. First time riding spd pedals and found it to be extremely easy to get in an out even with the two sided pedal. Flat side has a lot of grip and is great with regular shoes for riding around the neighborhood with kids. Definitely recommend these pedals if you need the flexibility of flats and clipless.

Highly versatile for all-around city bike use and off-road biking

The quality is in line with similar Shimano products and the pedals are light in weight for the price point. Shimano could use a larger foot platform for the non-clip side and larger pegs as the small size makes them hard to handle when initially screwing in.

I used to have cheap Shimano pedals, these are much easier to get in and out, more stylish, and easier to ride with flat shoes.

Great product for a good price! Only issue is the pedal gets flipped upside down often when using the flat side.

I put these on my fx 5 to allow for quick trips around my neighborhood without having to change into SPD shoes. The platform is large so my street shoes feel secure (I didn't mount the studs that shipped with the pedals). The SPD clips are really easy to clip into and out of but are still secure.

But these pills so I could lose the elf shoes and ride in different situations that require normal shoes to go into establishments like restaurants and cafes. But I still wanted the clip in type. If the price comes down I'll buy a second set for my ebike. These pedals hold your feet down if you don't use the clip on side. Very nice very versatile

Rock Solid for Daily Commuting

Switched to SPDs on both summer and winter bikes using cleated shimano mtb shoes and winter boots. Love them. Shave 10-15% off my daily commute with these new pedals, pedaling is so efficient and smooth. Adjustable, easy to get in and out, tight or slightly less, they work super well and easy to install. The flat shoe side is way large enough for ordinary shoes when needed. Just factor about an added 1/2' in height when using cleats, by adjusting your seat height.

Really nice pedals-suggest mod to upgrade

I bought these for my all rounder bike. Coming from the traditional toe strap pedals, these are safer and more efficient. Clipping in is really easy, so much in fact you can sometimes find yourself clipped and not really feel the difference underfoot until you pull up and notice you are engaged. As a habit now, I always pull up on the first stroke just to check which side of the pedal I'm on. This leads me to my hack for this pedal. Change out the pedal pins to longer ones (Shimano, it would be an ace if you could include this with the pedals!). I immediately helps you distinguish the clip side from the non clip side. I will also improve the grip on non clip shoes. Overall, nice build quality, function and appearance!

To clip or not to clip

Installed these pedals on my wife's Specialized Creo EVO. We do a lot of riding on fire roads in the mountain area, and she is uneasy being clipped in in certain circumstances. Before I would have to change the pedals to match the type of ride we were doing. But now these pedals have solved that problem. She can clip in when she wants or use the platform side when needed. Easy to clip in and out of. I am even looking to get a pair for my gravel bike. Very happy with this purchase.

I usually like to clip in but if the surface is slippery I can ride with one or both shoes out of the clips. The reverse side still grips my shoe well so pedaling can be effective and I feel safe.

I really enjoy the look and feel of these pedals. The SPD side is easy to get into and quick to release when needed. The flat side is perfect for quick jaunts to the market or errands around town.

I put these Shimano pedals on my commuting bike, a Kona Jake with fenders, to replace similar pedals made by Crank Bros. because I decided to shift to SPD cleats. My Crank Bros. pedals and cleats were getting harder to quickly clip in, and it turns out that the SPD pedals and cleats clip in better for me. These two-sided pedals have a better grip on the platform side, too, with the small screw-ins compared to less grippy bumps on the Crank Bros. two-sided pedals. I'm pleased with the change and pleased with the Shimano pedals.
