I ordered the 28 but I received the 25 instead and wanted to return them but it took forever for them to come in already. I figured it would make my Specialized Source Expert Disc roll faster with the 25's so I just went with them. Well the bike seemed to roll faster then the 30's it came with and also made it more snappy and nimble, however, the ride was way more bumpy and seem to feel every little crack, pebble, seed, or whatever was on the road or bike path. Not a very comfortable ride to the point I stopped riding it and chose to ride other bikes from my stable. That being said I bought these tires last spring (2019) and probably have less than 125 miles on them. I pulled the bike out a month ago because I really missed the bike, but not the feel of the ride from the tires but after two 6 - 14 mile rides I noticed the a lump feeling from the rear wheel and saw that the tire looked to be about to pop off the rim. I rode to a bike shop to release some of the air and then reseat the tire bead and refill it with air and the tire still looked like it wanted to pop off the rim. I reduced the air pressure and limped on back home. I took the tire off the rim to find that the tire bead pulled/ripped off from the tire itself. To not have put that many miles on these tires I was very disappointed. I was told and read that Schwalbe tires are good but I am not impressed this first time out.
On my first trip across the country I had 20 flat tires, on the second trip I put Schwalbe marathon plus tires on. I ended up with 3800 miles without a single flat tire, and I still got some more miles on them after I got back. My touring bike weighs 30 pounds, I was carrying about 50 pounds of gear, and I weigh about 200 pounds so they were pretty well loaded down. That was about ten years ago and I have been using Schwalbe tires every since.
I have been using gator skins for probably a decade. It seems like the last couple years the quality of them were slipping a bit. I started getting a lot more flats during my 10-mile each way commute. I used to go entire years without flats and suddenly it was oncemonth. I decided to start looking around for a new commuter tire and gave these marathons a try. I've had them for a couple months now and no flats so far. I'm very happy with the handling and grip as well. The traction is definitely better than the contis and the rolling resistance doesn't seem much more than the 28mm gatorskins I was using. I also tried the marathon plus. Those are considerably heavier and have greater rolling resistance than the regular marathons. For the price, puncture resistance, and weight savings I have definitely found a new favorite commuter tire. Also, that super-bright reflective band on the sidewall gives motorists no excuse for not seeing you from the side at night, which is a huge bonus for people like me who ride to work before the sun comes up.
The only negative thing I have to say about these tires is that they are extremely difficult to mount especially the first time. It took several tries to get the bead to seat properly so I didn't have a thud-thud-thud due to the tire not being concentric with the wheel.
The tires were excellent. The ordering process was easy and hassle free. Shipping was right on time.
My only gripe was that the tires were very difficult to get on and off the rims even while using talc. I asked my LBS for some advice and they sold me a tire bead jack and it worked perfectly. The tires are great with much increased traction and responsiveness. They are a few grams heavier than my old racing tires, but the increase in performance far outweighs the difference.
The tire compound on this just feels tougher and better manufactured than any other tire. Frankly any other tire feels flimsy and cheap. They feel good on forest paths also but loose rocks have a hard time. Combined with great cust service from BT direct, these are an excellent buy. Don't forget tire levers to put them on.
Very difficult to get on (broke one of my flimsier tire bars) but once they're on they're fantastic. I only have one bike so I wanted a do it all tire--these work great for that. When I was doing research I found a lot of reviews about the rolling resistance of these tires. I didn't notice any difference between my old slick tires and these. Flat protection is a big plus for me because Portland's roads can have some debris.
I only replaced my front tire with a Schwalbe Marathon 700x35, old tire was a CST 700x32.
1. Bike turning radius was reduced.
2. Rolling resistance seems lower, my speed is higher by 1-2 mph.
3. These tires are not ideal on crushed limestone trails common in the Midwest, unless it is hardpacked
I purchased these tires for a 2020 Trek 920. I used Schwalbe Marathon tires in the past and I can vouch for the quality, endurance, and flat protection. These tires replaced a set of tubeless tires that were getting worn. These tires mounted easily and look great. They are a bit on the heavy side; however, I'm not a racer so the weight doesn't bother me. If you're looking for a robust touring/city/commuter tire, than look no further.
I purchased a replacement tire for the current tires that are on my touring bicycle. The tire works great, I have not had any flats yet and it holds a lot of weight. The reflective strip on the tire is an added bonus.
I am a t7 para and I use a wheelchair. I also ride a handcycle. I have schwalbe tires on all my bikes and wheelchairs. I need the best flat protection possible and I feel that is what I get with schwalbe marathon tires.
I have these on my Trek 7.3fx bike that I use daily to commute to work. I ride over potholes, gravel and all sorts of miscellaneous junk and have NEVER had a flat. After 2,200 miles there is almost no visible wear. I have a level of trust in these tires I never before thought possible.
In addition to commuting, I put in longer rides some evenings and most weekends and will say these tires also roll pretty easy. They would not be my first choice for fast club rides, but they are not really meant to be a racing or training tire. They are my first choice for 50 and 100 mile charity rides. They will not let you down.
I use this on my fixed commuter. I don't skid, just want something to get me to and from work with an occasional romp through Forest Park on the way home. As long as I don't go on any of the gnarlier fire lanes they are just fine. Not alot of flats. Tires that help your bike go forwards and backwards, and sometimes sideways.
I normally use Michelin or Continental tires and tubes, but they were not immediately available when I needed them. So, I ordered Schwalbe tires which I had heard of for a long time, but never tried. Theyre not the lowest-priced ones, but theyre reasonable. So far they are meeting all my expectations, and I hope that they will continue to do so.
I don't really have any complaints. I have the 38mm width. I've rolled through some sketchy areas (broken glass, potholes, etc) for over 1000 miles with no flats yet! It feels fast enough for touring/adventure rides.
I have ridden many tires in the past few years that I have picked up on cycling. None of them have been as quick rolling, comfortable, or trustworthy as these 700x35 Marathons. I took them out on a nasty ride here near Woodland Park, Colorado. Pavement, cracked pavement, a little chipseal, gravel, pea gravel, mud, snow, rocks, a climb with 1700 feet gain in 4 miles, washboard, only to be surprised that these tires handled everything with confidence and speed. Despite the weight and bulk in these tires, they are fast. I even scored a new record on a 400 foot climb that I have ridden for nearly 2 years. Don't overthink it guys and gals, get this tire if your bicycle has the clearance!
