Best upgrade I could have made.

I use my 530 for both road and gravel rides, including some mountain bike rides. It's nice that you can select the type of ride you're doing, whether road, gravel or mountain. I especially like the screen size. Prior to this Garmin I had a 500, which lasted a long time, but like many electronic devices, it started to get a little wonky, hence why I upgraded. And I also love the information shown on the navigation screens when out doing a course that I uploaded from Ride with GPS. All in all, I'm very happy with the 530!

Lots of details in a small computer. Information is collected and viewed directly on the screen or you can use the Garmin map screen and concentrate on your route and upload your ride info later

second garmin purchase. set up was a bit complicated as I could only get the speed sensor to work after downloading garmin app to her phone and syncing them (weak instructions). Programmed route for her first ride with and it lost route midway and wouldn't reconnect. Disappointing. I thought Garmin would have worked out issue with its newer models (my unit is ~7 year old), but guess not.

Loving this device. Very easy to set up, first of these devices so had some online searching to do in order to understand functions (like the start button being somewhat unintuitive on bottom facing rider- but of course makes sense so it is not accidentally pushed). Has enhanced riding. HR monitor has been great, helps my training.

The only difference between 530 and 830 is the touch screen and finding nearby spots navigation. Considering that this is not a phone the touchscreen on these devices is usually not as responsive as a phone, I didn't care too much about touch screen. Also, I personally don't need to know where the nearest gas station is when I ride my bike so I didn't care about the other feature either.

Overall, I'm very happy with the device. The battery life is amazing and I love the additional sensors. The heart rate monitor is kind of must have as the calorie burned calculation is really off if you don't wear it.

Use it for all my rides, mostly longer on W/E. Initially a little lost how to operate it but on web channels got all the help needed. Besides the basics has so many options still to discover.

I like the EDGE 830 however when cycling alone or with my bike group we tend to do the same routes or very similiar ones so as far as mapping new routes or riding via GPS and returning to the starting point I really don't have experience to guide you either way concering that aspect. I am stepping up from my EDGE 705 which finally stopped working after 12 long hard riding years. I use to turn my 705 off at certain times when stopping for short or long periods of time and then forgetting to turn it back on once I continued riding for "X" amount of miles. I no longer do that with my 830. I set it to automatically stop recording when I stop and I find that not only more efficient but I also don't have to remember to turn it back on. It also gives me a lot more information feedback as far as calories consumed, fluid consumed, exercise load, training benefit, respiration rate, outdoor temperature, total pedal strokes and more but at 59 years of age I'm more interested in total mileage and overall time but thats not to say that your not interested in all that information so there's plenty of information at your finger tips. I definitely like the the touch screen for easier navigation but I only touch it before I start to ride and again after I finish so I can't say how it would be riding and swiping. I am very happy with the overall functionality of the unit but I do have one gripe. Each time I get ready to ride I have to make sure that my speed, cadence and Heart rate sensors are connected. I have ridden over 65 times since I got my 830 and it has never automatically recognized all 3 sensors so I have to connect which ever one or two needs to be connected before I head out. It only takes a few seconds but I never had that problem with my 705!! I absolutely recommend the 830 just beware of the sensor connection issue that I experience on a daily basis but maybe that won't be an issue at all for you??? The sensor issue is why I rate it 4 stars instead of 5 so there is some room for improvement. Whatever you decide to get just remember you alway have an EDGE with GARMIN :-)

I upgraded to the 530 because I appreciated it's functionality over my older 520. Lots of training dynamics data, maps galore should you want to consult them, and an easy-to-read screen. I prefer a smaller display than the 1030 range, more compact in cockpit and lighter. Good visual interface with Garmin Varia radar. Only drawback is that the battery may require more frequent recharging, depending how many features you activate.

The Edge 530 has been a great addition to my cycling. With the integration w Garmin Connect, its very easy to create training workouts, custom routes, and also more detailed performance stats from each of my rides. I've used it for both road, gravel, and mountain biking and its well suited for each discipline. The battery life is solid. I've only done 1 longer (5 hours) ride with it, but had no concerns of it dying somewhere along the way. Normally, I use it for several 60-90 minute rides a week and typically only charge it once every other week. It integrates seamlessly with all of my sensors (garmin speed and cadence), heart rate strap (garmin chest strap), and lights (garmin varia headlight, garmin varia radar). It has changed my cycling experience. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that periodically there are some small annoyances like auto downloads restarting your ride, but these are few and far between.

I have been using this for training and racing. The course mapping is improved over the 520. No problem finding heart rate monitors, smart trainers or power meters. Multiple displays can be set up for each type of riding that you are doing. You can have your main screen focus on heart rate, power, cadence and time and then have other screens to check lap data and so on. You can have turn-by-turn info for your course too. So far, I have used it in a race, for training and on a road bike (Favero Assioma power) and mountain bike (Stages power). Western Bike Works had a really good price for the unit.

Review for Garmin Edge 830 GPS Computer

Great computer with many functions I am still learning to use. I bought it to sync with my rear radar/tail light. Works well on both MTB and Road bike using the mount with rubber connector bands. I still have to try mounting the extender on the road bike. Not certain if the extension mount will fit the larger oblong carbon road bars. I like the audible beep for the sharp curve notifications because I typically am not looking at the screen notifications when approaching a sharp switchback! the touch screen is great!

After 6 years of using my Garmin Edge 500, I decided to upgrade to the 520 bundle. Excuse - my son needed my 500 ) So... wht an upgrade! The GPX function is awesome. I took a trip to Belgium, used the Knooppunt website, uploaded route into my Edge 520 and voila - instant navigation expertise! Compared to Edge 500, HR strap is better, GPS connection better, all faster, great battery life. Overall, no complaints. Was considering the 800, 1000 series... 520 is definitely the best for me. Love it.

Review for Garmin Edge 830 GPS Computer

Had the 810 before this. I really liked it but once I connected the Varia radar unit to it the seven year old battery showed it's age. The 830 stunned me with its battery life .. still had 70 to 75 percent of a charge after more than 100 miles of riding. Multiple devices connected including power meter, radar, and electronic shifters. I love the incline grade feature and the screen customization. And the display is a dramatic improvement from the 810.

Perfect! Used a 1030 for >3 years thinking I needed its large screen. When it died (Blue Halo screen) I was going to replace it with a 1030+, but then the 1040 came out. Suddenly realized I don't need all the data-obsessed features Garmin includes (which are a pain to have to shut off if that is even possible!), and thought I'd try the 830. Love it:

(1) its screen is just enough bigger than the old 820 screen that data displayed in the 10-window data screen is easily readable

(2) its alert beep is loud enough, though perhaps not quite as loud as the one on the 1030+

(3) about half the weight of a 1030/1030+/1040

(4) fast processor for quick performance

I've had many Garmin devices over the years. In my opinion, sometimes Garmin gets it right and sometimes they don't. I think that they got it right with the Edge 830 - although it's too early to know about true durability yet. First, a gripe: Coming from the Edge Explore, going back to a smaller screen seemed a step backwards. However, that being said, the basic cycling information is well displayed and the screens can be customized for just the information I want to see at a glance. I really like the way it integrates with the Varia radar taillight and headlight. It seems that the alert for approaching cars is more noticeable on this unit than the Explore. I have not used all of the included features of the 830 - and one's like the crash alert - I hope I never will! However, the 830 seems like a keeper. Tip: buy the silicone case to avoid damage.

After years with the 510, it was time to move up. The 830 is for the most part intuitive, and the touch screen features allow options to be used while riding. The ability to download segments, particularly climbs, is much appreciated. This makes it much easier to pace the 500 - 2000 foot climbs. The battery life seems excellent, on a number of occasions I have not recharged the battery but there has been plenty of life left for the next ride. The 1030 was tempting, but I prefer the size of the 830.

The Edge 530 replaces my 5-yr. old Edge 820. I am much happier with the 530 because: 1, my screen would go haywire in the rain; 2, much faster processing with routes; 3, better looking screen that does not reminds me of my Palm Pilot; 4, much better battery life. The new firmware is also less buggy so, yeah, I am glad that Garmin (finally) up their game. I was seriously considering switching to a Wahoo Element or a Karoo Hammerhead. I would have given it 5 stars if the screen has better resolution and color-there is not excuse in 2021 to have a screen from a 20 yr. old flip phone!

Review for Garmin Edge 530 GPS Computer

Garmin 530 has everything I need and more. I like that it turns on and is ready to go right away, syncs with my phone so I receive texts and weather alerts, uploads to Strava right after each ride, has customizable dashboards, easy map loading, and many more options that I haven't used yet. Price is always the the difficult part in making the purchase, but Western offered a great price, so I couldn't pass it up. No complaints.
