It is held together magnetically, so there is no clanking around, and it is very compact as well. I decided to buy this after I watched one of our riders have a problem mid-ride that required a link to be removed and a quick-link to hold the chain together. I realized I did NOT have a chain breaker and this tool took care of that old problem. I am now the guy that has everything in case of emergency: I just don't let the rest of the group know it.
