The eagle has left the nest.
From deep within the walls of an undisclosed location that seems an awful lot like Indianapolis, the Zipp 808 NSW Carbon Clinchers were born. They are the pride and joy of Zipp's Nest advanced-development division, and as such, they were dubbed the 808 NSW for "Nest Speed Weaponry." Zipp's best and brightest began with their already blisteringly fast Firecrest rim-profile and gave it some major tweaks, imparting the 808 NSW wheels with a wider 27.8 mm profile and an updated ABLC™ SawTooth™ dimpling pattern for even better aero efficiency and crosswind stability. ImPress™ graphics make an aesthetically subtle but significant upgrade performance-wise by printing the logos directly onto the wheel so the work of the aerodynamic dimpling is unaffected unlike with traditional wheel decals.
If you've ridden 808s before, you know that the way they let you build speed can be almost frightening, so stack on the extra gains built into the 808 NSW hoops, and you can bet that Zipp made sure to provide ample deceleration capacity to match their increase in speed. Along the outer edges of the rim, you'll find their industry-leading Showstopper™ brake track which incorporates molded-in grooves for consistent wet-weather performance along with extremely strong and abrasion-resistant silicon-carbide particles in the resin. In combination with a rough media-blasted finish, the result is unparalleled braking power and manipulation even in the wettest of weather.
It's not just the 82 mm deep rims of the NSW 808 wheels that passed under The Nest's deft hands and eyes though. The 18 front / 24 rear Sapim CX-Ray spokes are laced to an improved Cognition™ hubset as well. The rear uses Axial Clutch™ technology that reduces drag by using a magnet-operated 36-tooth freehub mechanism that disengages when coasting. It also features a star-shaped hub flange along with a scalloped hub shell on the front that both serve to reduce the loads placed on the bearings for extended longevity and smoothness.
Claimed weights are 830 g / front, 980 g / rear, 1810 g total. Rider weight limit is 250 lbs. Includes titanium quick-release skewers, Silca valve extenders, wheel bags, Zipp Platinum Pro Evo brake pads, Zipp 700c x 19 - 25 mm inner tubes, and rim tape.
