Lets face it, we don't exclusively ride on the road these days. A day on smooth, pristine asphalt racking up the miles with your friends is still great, but getting off the beaten path and conquering a chunky gravel trail changes the way we think about riding. With a massive 21mm internal rim diameter, a tubeless ready rim bed, and Centerlock-compatible Cognition Disc hubs, the Zipp 202 NSW Tubeless Disc brake Wheelset is designed for the modern rider.
By designing this wheelset for disc brake applications, Zipp's ABLC SawTooth dimple design starts millimeters from the rim bead. Not only do disc brakes improve brake performance, but they actually make this wheelset more aerodynamically stable. These dimples are based around 12 different nodes around the rim, strategically placed to disturb the wind's drag-inducing force on the non-wind side. The result is a rim design that not only reduces drag with head-on winds, but also reduces drag and improves stability under side or crosswinds.
Down below, Zipp's new Cognition rear hub features the Zipp Axial Clutch mechanism, providing improved engagement with drag-free coasting. This is achieved with two Metal Injection Molding ratchet rings inside of the hub, one attached to the freehub and one to the hub body, that glide over each other while coasting but engage each other during pedaling. This lateral-engagement mechanism isn't new to the market, but the inclusion of Zipp's magnetic tension agent (replacing the usual spring) is.
The Zipp 202 NSW Tubeless Disc Brake Wheelset includes front and rear quick release skewers, individual wheel bags, Zipp tubeless valve (factory installed), tubeless rim tape (factory installed), valve core removal tool, Zipp Cognition thru-axle caps to fit 12x100, 15x100, and 12x142 dropouts, and a freehub spacer (11-to-10-speed).
