Spurcycle Compact Bell

A fine bell, but it doesn't do enough to separate itself from other standard issue bells. In particular you really have to get your thumbing targeted perfectly otherwise the bell won't ring well, which can be a tall order when wearing winter gloves, or trying to cram the bell between your grip, shifter, and brake lever. Next time I'd spring for the more expensive Spurcyle bell which I don't think has this problem, or stick with the cheap ones that come with commuter bikes.

I was part of the mad rush to get a bike last year when COVID hit, and when I decided to get my wife a new bike for Christmas, I wanted to correct a few errors I made when kitting out mine. I had a Knog Oi bell on my GT hybrid, and while it looked great, the clapper spring wasn't holding up. I use my bell a lot when trail riding and on my commute, and I have to be sure that I'll get a clear, reliable sound when I need it. I wanted to find a bell that was just as stylish as the Knog Oi but would consistently work when called upon. The Spurcycle Compact fits the bill. The size and color make for a welcome edition to my ride. It's small! It doesn't make me feel like I'm riding a kiddie bike, but has a surprisingly loud, clear sound. The Spurcycle Compact only fits 22.2 diameter bars, which puts it at the narrow end of my bars. If you prefer to mount your bell closer to your stem riser, then this might not be the bell for you, but I love having the clapper a thumb's length away. I don't have to take my hands off my grips to use it. The dome is high enough to clear my brake levers and my grip locks, and installing and adjusting the bell for ease of use was a breeze. I wasn't sure I wanted to spend this much on a bike bell, let alone two, but the quality of the Spurcycle reinforces the fact that you get what you pay for. The performance and quality justify the price here. These are well-made, solid little bells that were easy to install, are easy to use, and that sound great.

Good little bell. It does what it's supposed to do and it's not as flimsy or breakable. As many of the other bills on the market. It feels like these products should be about $10 cheaper but they aren't and this is what you need to pay to get something that will last many years.

it's an expensive bell that isn't very good

not sure why they chose composite nylon (plastic) for the band. i over tightened it and it split. i've never managed to do this with a metal banded bell

a $10 bell could have provided the same experience

I've tried all the cool bells. The trouble is that size matters. Weight matters. And most importantly the sound that a bell makes matters. The sound part matters a lot, it determines whether or not the bell actually works.

This bell is small. It looks good. It makes a pleasant ringing sound that carries well. A tap of a finger will mute it quickly. It is a little expensive for what it is, but I liked it so much that I bought a second one if that tells you anything!

I now have 3 of these. Although they are expensive they are the best bells I've used. They resonate long after other bells have stopped.

Overall a great minimalist option, loud and unique sounding. I highly recommend this bell if your looking to clear some dog walkers or alert fellow cyclists.
