This Heirloom Toolkit Is A Work Of Functional Art
Having the correct tools can make or break the home wrenching experience, and more than having just the right tools, having tools of the greatest quality can turn that experience from mere task to gratifying joy. Silca knows all about how to tug at cyclists' deepest heart strings, and their HX1 Tool Kit hits the spot just right.
This hex key wrench set is manufactured from S-2 tool steel with a Chrome coating that is 16% harder than standard Cr-V steel and can be manufactured with more dimensional accuracy than regular hex keys. The increased precision and durability means prolonged life for the tool and less risk of damaging fasteners, especially those made of aluminum or titanium. The handles are sprayed with a grippy, bright-red textured-polymer finish that not only makes them easy to handle, but also makes them visually stand out on the workbench, a small but incredibly helpful detail in the cluttered garages of many a home mechanic.
Beyond the full range of hex-key wrenches from 2 mm to 10 mm, The HX1 Tool Kit also includes Silca's Stainless Magnetic Adapter that turns the 6 mm wrench into a 1/4" socket driver for the 6 Torx, 2 Phillips, and 2 flathead bits, making the HX1 Tool Kit all that's needed for most bicycle repair tasks.
All the pieces are securely housed in a hand-crafted beechwood box, with the tools themselves set in their own CNC'd slots to keep everything nicely organized, whether for home or travel use.
Included Tools:
- Allen Keys: 10 mm, 8 mm, 6 mm, 5 mm, 4 mm, 3 mm, 2.5 mm, 2 mm
- Torx Drivers: T8, T10, T15, T20, T25, T30
- Phillips Drivers: #1, #2
- Slotted Drivers: .5, 1
- 6 mm Stainless Magnetic Bit Adapter

Reviews
I stumbled upon this tool set while researching other parts for a bike I am currently building. When I looked at the price, I laughed...really $XXX. I started looking at the pictures in more detail and became fixated. It only took 24-48 hours for me to lose the little self control that I had left and a decent Black Friday Western Bike sale to pull the trigger on this purchase. Buyer's remorse quickly settled in. Then I received the tool set. The first thing that struck me when lifting the cardboard shipping box from my front porch was how heavy the box was...surely they had shipped 2 or 3 sets by mistake, I thought. I opened the packaged and removed the beechwood storage box and immediately knew I was in for something special. I opened the wooden box and was astounded by what was inside. The quality of the tool set is simply amazing...to the point where I would rather put them on display rather than use them. Yes,they are that good and I don't even think about the Benjamin they cost me. I heard that a gentlemen from Indiana purchased the Silca brand from the previous Italian owner. I'd like to take the 90 minute drive up I-65 to Indianapolis to shake his hand and tell him, great job! Of course now I want one of everything Silca makes...especially that Richard Sachs floor pump.
These hex wrenches are expensive, but worth every penny. Like a lot of riders, i spent a lot on my bikes and gear, but i skimped on the quality of my tools and boy did i pay for it. These wrenches fit exactly. No more stripped heads fir me!
I was skeptical about this kit since it is rather pricey - well, I got it and it sits on my workbench and I actually use it quite a bit. I value the precision of the wrenches and I grab them more than my old T handle wrenches. The box looks awesome and is very well made, as are the wrenches. You can go cheaper for sure, but you are not going to beat the style and quality of these wrenches.
The best thing about these wrenches is they are true to size, and dont round off bolts like many Allen wrenches do. They are also very comfortable to hold, and have a solid feel in hand. The wood case is cool, not sure if I would rather have one of the Silca travel pouches though instead like the T-handle wrenches they make. They make working on a bike that much more enjoyable, especially if you have a high end bike with unique fasteners (as many do) that you dont want to round at all while making adjustments, for fear theyd be a hassle to replace if you had to. They are expensive, are they worth it? Maybe, if you keep them and pass them along to your son so he can enjoy them for future bicycles he may work on....
