Description Trail ready — Sidi Defender 20
Blending the best features of a comfortable hiking shoe and an XC and trail riding shoe, the Sidi Defender 20 Shoe offers the perfect grip in a variety of conditions. Striking a balance between remaining incredibly stiff yet lightweight, the Defender 20 is the perfect shoe for those times when you're caught in a steep hike-a-bike section of trail. The tread of the Defender 20 gives you the comfort you need while walking without compromising on power transfer when on the bike.
Sidi's Politex uppers are constructed of several different thin layers to create a supportive and durable material designed to stand up against the debris you face out on the trails.
Impressively supportive soles are just one detail that makes Sidi shoes stand out. The Defender shoe uses Sidi's Outdoor Sole. The grippy rubber sole not only adapts to variable trail conditions but keeps you stable while on foot. Clipping back into your pedals after traipsing through muddy off-bike sections, now comes more quickly. The Defender's tread pattern sheds the mud blocking you from clipping in, so you can be on your way much easier.
Features:
The shoe for all your mountain adventures
Sidi's Outdoor Sole is grippy and adaptable to trail conditions, keeping you stable and secure.
The Politex uppers are super durable and tough
The Tecno-3 closure cinches down by the millimeter, allowing you the perfect fit for optimal comfort and performance
Your foot isn't going anywhere with Sidi's reinforced heel cap.

Great Shoes,

The shoes work well as I do a lot of exploration that frequently involves walking, scrambling etc. on a variety of terrain. They are of always good Sidi quality and fit, and, have design features that are not in their more race oriented shoes, for example a toe cap that resists wear. I have had problems with other shoes that the toes wear through before the rest of the shoe. My only criticism of the shoe is that the winder that tightens the laces is very prone to dust infiltration. Once in a while it is nessesary to blow the doodad out with an air hose and lubricate it with a touch of silicone. So,,,, so far so good!

Strange fit

I have a pair of these. I spent a lot of time fiddling with insoles to make them work. The heel is really wide and I had to add a number of lifts to bring my foot up into the heel pocket so it won't slip. Then the front part of the shoe is quite tight. Eventually I had to take out the standard insoles and replace them with a 3/4 length insole (at the suggestion of Sidi - they know it's tight in the front). The removal of the velcro strap from the SD15 and replacing it with a 3 level long boa style closure means that the forefoot will always tend to be too tight (hence, the 3/4 length insole).
I have regular Sidi mtb shoes and road shoes and they all fit perfectly. These are just a strange fit but the shoe had so much promise for gravel. Hopefully Sidi goes back and gets this right - tighten up the heel, open up the front, reduce the travel of the boa from 3 eyelet sets back to two and add either a second boa or a velcro toe strap. Then this will be a winner. Until then? Just an odd fitting shoe.
