When you know it's just about time you give your most reliable bike an upgrade, look no further. Designed to excel in road cycling applications, Shimano's PD-R550 Pedals offer high-quality technology at a great value. With a durable composite steel construction in one lightweight design, these pedals will have you out on the road in no time.
Based on designs proven in Pro Tour racing, the Shimano R550 SPD-SL Road pedal is poised to deliver on your next ride. With a durable and low maintenance design, these pedals provide increased stability, ease of use, and improved power transfer. The wide, lightweight resin body offers a large shoe contact area to maximize support while reducing weight. Featuring a durable stainless steel body plate that reduces flex and pedal body wear. Foot-to-pedal stability is provided thanks to an extra-wide platform, boosting your power transfer as well as minimizing frustrating slips while on the move.
The legacy of Shimano design, quality, and performance is more than noticeable in these PD-R550 Road Pedals. With a larger entry target as well as a clipless pedal design, engagement is easier, making this an ideal pedal for new-to-clipless riders. A 3-hole cleat design is perfect for that crucial extra traction, and SPD-SL compatibility makes a huge difference so you can embrace your next adventure without a care in the world.

Reviews
These pedals just work. Great if you don't want to spend the cash on the pricier models. We use this model for our indoor training and save our Ultegra/105 lighter models for outside. Truthfully, we used this pedal outside before we upgraded. No complaints l, no worries, easy maintenance, and solid pedals
I bought these pedals to use on my road bike for club rides. When they arrived, the pedals would not spin, because they were stuck in gooey thick grease. You need a special tool to take out the bearings, which I bought. The pedals use cheap sleave bearings, which evidently are bathed in thick grease to keep them functioning. Since I like the pedals to right themselves so they are easy to get into, I thinned and removed most of the grease with WD-40. The pedals still have grease and are well-lubricated, but now at lease they can spin and right themselves.
There is a reason these pedals are so much cheaper than the 105. They are marginally better than the off-brand copycat pedals. They are still a reasonable choice if you get them cheap.
I'm not counting grams and didn't want to rebuild old pedals (yet), so 99.99 later and I'm clipping into crispy fresh springs and enjoying Shimano goodness without the cheap plastic wear surface of their truly entry level units. Bow before the fishing behemoth, salute the hegemon, Shimano is the ultimate bicycle industrial powerhouse.
