Forever forward.

Coming alongside the new-and-improved XTR M9100 components, Race, and Trail pedals, Shimano also saw to it that their premium enduro-focused shoe got an update as well. The Shimano ME701 shoe brings many of the original ME7's features, but adds fine touches and refined details for an improved fit with added durability.

With an updated microfiber leather upper, the new ME701 features strategically placed and spaced perforations that allow for improved breathability and fit, even replacing the mesh vents of the previous model. The pull-over closure gets an updated buckle, with lacing under the closure for an adjustable, secure fit. The toe and heel of the shoe receive reworked rubberized construction for superior protection and durability from encounters with rocks, mud, or trees. Finally, a sealed cleat area keeps mud or moisture from getting inside the shoe.

The Shimano ME701 MTB Shoe is compatible with 2-bolt mountain cleats and intended for trail / enduro riding.

Features:

  • Lightweight pedaling efficiency plus the durability and grip aggressive trail riders require.
  • Reinforced armor provides great protection and excellent durability.
  • Stretch Neoprene ankle collar for additional protection from debris.
  • Speed lacing system securely fits a wide range of foot shapes.
  • Super low-profile, reverse buckle securely holds foot.
  • Michelin® high-performance, dual-density rubber outsole.
  • Wider cleat adjustment range for cleat mounting.
  • Torbal torsional midsole allows natural rider flow motion during downhill descents.
  • 396g (size 42).

Comfortable, secure, keeps the grit out.

I find these shoes very comfortable. They have enough toe room, but are still very secure through the upper and around the ankle. I like that they shifted the cleat adjustment range aft a bit. These shoes combined with Saint pedals provides a very secure pedal interface. Im sure any pedal would go great with these shoes and Ill probably even use these for messy gravel bike rides.

I like that there are no BOA closures. Just a draw string and buckle. Simple and secure.

The close fit of the upper is comfortable and really helps to keep debris out. It also provides a little extra ankle protection especially around the instep.

Anyway, I think Shimanos shoes just keep getting better! These are definitely worth a try!

Great shoe, needed some breaking in,

I really like these shoes, they are wide in the toe box but can be cinched as tight (or loose) around the foot and ankles as you like. I wear them for gravel riding and don't change the fit on the fly, but you can. They did require some breaking in. At first there was some pressure and rubbing on my ankle between the medial malleolus and navicular due to the high collar of the shoe (I don't know if I got those right, I'm trying to identify the bone protrusions on the inside of the angle and foot). But I gave them a chance and it was worth it. They are also surprisingly well ventilated.

I had an older pair of shimano shoes and used that size to order these. This specific pair has a very large toe box and i thought maybe i needed a different size, bur that being said i did get used to it.

Other than that the shoe is super light and very dryable which was what i was looking for.

Bought these for gravel bike riding. Comfortable both on and off the bike. Solid construction, and the waterproofing feature is great for mildly wet days. Match up well with Crank Bros pedals. Not race stuff, but stuff enough for a good power transfer. Slightly higher cuff means you might have a bit of a break in period, as it will hit your ankle. But the higher design also means you can ride them a bit looser if you need to.
