Description

Shimano's XT/XTR Wintertime Metallic Pad

Cooler brakes stop more reliably, and Shimano's XT/XTR J04C Metallic Disc Brake Pads use metallic construction to provide confident all-around stopping power in the wet, gritty, and dirty conditions associated with shoulder season mountain biking.

On their own, metallics are reliably effective in wet or dry conditions, lasting much longer than their resin counterparts. The pads are made with aluminum cooling fins that radiate heat outward, improving the pads' ability to stay cool under hard braking.

If you're running Shimano XT or XTR hydraulic disc brakes on your bike and want a go-to wintertime pad for wet, muddy and gritty conditions. This is the one.

Features:

  • Brake pads for consistent stopping power, even in the heat
  • Metallic compound for reliable stopping in wet or dry
  • Radiation fin pad moves heat outwards to keep pads cool
  • Optimized for Shimano XT/XTR series disc brakes
  • Aluminum, stainless steel compound
  • Sold as a set for one brake. Buy two sets to complete both front and rear brakes
  • Intended use: mountain biking
  • *Note: Compatible with the following brakes: XTR BR-M9000, BR-M9020, BR-M985, XT BR-M8000, BR-M785, SLX BR-M666, Alfine BR-S700 and BR-R785, BR-RS785.*

Decent price, good wear factor, solid, reliable braking. Used these for years, any weather, only down is they can be a bit noisy, especially in wet conditions, but that's the case with most pads.

This is my second set of Shimano's metal disc pads, which have excellent stopping power for the price. They installed in minutes on my Cannondale CAAD 12 disc, putting the stopping power back in my Shimano hydraulic brakes. As noted in the title of the review, they tend to be louder than resin pads. If you're not bothered by the noise (I'm not), and want to stop efficiently, go with these. I reduced my rating from 5 to 4 stars simply because for some they might be too noisy for some riders. I definitely recommend.

I was nervous about changing my hydraulic disc pads myself, but actually its really easy. Check out a Park Tool video on changing these pads-it will take you about 10 minutes.

These pads work well and are easy to install. There was no need for a break-in period and they are quiet. They were the same as the original brake pads that came on the bike and lasted about 7800 miles.

I prefer the metal compound pads for most situations. They have faster initial bite and overall better stopping performance in wet and dry conditions. They also last longer than the organic compound pads. The only situation where I dont like them is riding in a race peloton. Shimanos Servo Wave Technology causes the braking to be a little touchy with these pads and its harder to make subtle changes in speed.

Excellent stopping power, not much noise. Excellent price!, shipping cost little more than one would expect for a little envelop with 2 pads in it.
