Reviews
This seat allows for rotation of you upper body forward and back without discomfort in the various positions, but it is, I think, designed to keep your sit bones in the same place. I don't think you want this saddle if you move your sit bones to different locations on the saddle. Some people like to move around the saddle - I like to keep my sit bones well planted and return to the same place after standing.
It takes a few rides getting used to, as all saddles do, but once you get it set up correctly it takes the pressure off sensitive areas. I changed my saddle on recommendation of my urologist. I was initially reluctant as I did not have a problem with my old saddle. Once I got the SMP saddle adjusted ... I found a video on line .. I was a happy I changed.
Got this saddle after purchasing a Trek Verve (upright riding). I was using my Brooks saddle, which love very much. No matter how many adjustments the saddle would not get comfortable. Sad, so put it back on my other bike which is a crank forward model. I only gave it a four star because it's just been a few rides and the verdict is still out. Nevertheless, it is more comfortable on the private parts. I'm sure will like it more after I get acclimated to the new ride and saddle.
I'm 50 years old, 202 lbs and have been cycling for only the past two years, initially for weight loss exercise but now for pure enjoyment. With the stock seat on my Giant Rapid, I found discomfort in the groin area when rides were greater than 30 miles. My younger biking colleagues convinced me to try this seat as they found improvement with use. I have used the seat for numerous rides over 25-30 miles now and wow, I experience none or minimal discomfort during and after rides. I was truly surprised and impressed how well this works. Price is reasonable and quality is good. As a note, I fiddled with the installation position and found a slight nose down incidence provided the best comfort (flat bar road bike). No issues with order, would use WB for future purchases.
Finished STP 2014 in 1 day on this saddle and I would say everything hurt except my butt. This is my 4th saddle I've tried this year and it'll stay on my bike for awhile. Love the shape and cut out on this thing. Highly recommended if you are doing any long distance riding.
My Cannondale synapse 6 came with a Prologo kappa saddle and I was in pain after 15-20 miles of riding, endured this for 3 weekends of long distance riding when a friend of mine suggested I switch to the selle SMP Extra, Tried out this one instead, And MAN WHAT A HUGE F'ing DIFFERENCE. Its night and day, I don't even feel any pain whatsoever. Wouldn't have minded paying 2-3 times as much for this kind of immediate pain relief.
This was the 5th seat I have tried and so far it is the most comfortable. I have about a hundred miles on it and it gets more comfortable each ride. The cut out works well. And the seat seems well made. Hopefully this will be my last seat for a while.
Bought this saddle on a recommendation from a colleague at work. Have struggled for years looking for a replacement for my old leather Brooks. This is it. Did back to back centuries last week-end and the saddle was not there, no pain or discomfort other than 7.5 hours in the saddle. Saddle did it's job.
Haven't dealt with Western Bike before. Called the sales person who was refreshingly knowledgeable and he assured me the saddle would go out that afternoon. Wife called the next day to say it had arrived. That's what I call service.
I replaced a Brooks B-17 leather saddle with this Selle SMP TRK saddle on my Motobecane, Century Team, road bike. The TRK has approximately the same width as the B-17 and is just as comfortable. I purchased this TRK based on the cut-away feature to see if it would relieve my numbness in my hands during longer rides. It did not help this condition, but it is well made with nice cushioning, so I will continue to use it. For the price, I highly recommend it to riders looking for a wider, well made cut- away saddle.
I use this on an aluminum-frame road bike, riding mostly 20-40 miles at a time but occasionally longer. The shape does what it advertises it has eliminated pineal nerve problems and chafing, but provides a comfortable platform. The sloping nose allows me to ride in the drops without discomfort. It's a bit more padded than most saddles, but not plush. The price is reasonable, especially compared to Selle's higher-end models. I couldn't be more pleased!
This seat is for my stoker who has never been happy about any of her tandem seats. She's not complained about this one yet. The proof will be how it works this summer after 6 or 7 hours in the saddle.
I tried out the Selle SMP pro for myself and liked it a lot. Feels weird at first since all your weight is on the sit bones. After awhile you forget about the seat, and that is the best compliment I have ever made about a saddle.
This model is quite wide and has plenty of padding. I think it is most suitable for women who prefer wider and softer.
As a cyclist above age 70, comfort is my priority. The saddle is on my Trek Checkpoint and so far so good. Always takes some time to dial in the saddle adjustment but at this point I am looking forward to a comfortable relationship with the SMP TRK.
This is my 3rd TRK. This seat cures my perineal numbness. The 1st 2 lasted about 6,000 KM each before the numbness came back. I rode Avocet, Brooks Imperial, an Aliante from an illiterately named brand, and an ISM Tri seat before trying the TRK. The best was the Brooks, which kept the numbness away for about 12 miles, but this works into the 40s for me. I do not mean to guarantee it will work for you, but if you're uncomfortable on your saddle, my reco is to consider the TRK, especially if numbness is a problem for you.
I've been riding about 1,300 miles a year on flat land. I'm overweight and 79 years of age.
I bought a touring bike and needed a touring saddle for the more upright position. Bike tourists can wax rhapsodic all day about their Brooks saddles but I need that Selle SMP channel and beak. I have a Pro on my road bike but I wanted something more padded for the touring bike. The choice was between the Plus and the TRK. The TRK was cheaper so I went with that and as soon as I got on it for the first time (while being fitted) I knew that this was the one. It fits so well and is so comfortable with my more upright touring position. And I don't have to go into a panic when the rain comes down.
On sale, this saddle is an absolute great deal. After 4 years of trying other saddles, I finally have a saddle that I'm comfortable spending long amounts of time on. No numbness issues, and is a great saddle for riding on rails to trails or canal trails. I do wonder through if I should have gotten a slightly stiffer saddle by choosing the gel. But so far, I have no complaints with this saddle.
