Reviews
I've ridden coast to coast across America on Schwalbe tires, and I recently purchased this specific width of tire for a rail-trail tour on the Blue River, Chief Standing Bear, Homestead and Mopac rail-trails in NE Kansas and SE Nebraska. We had heard that there might be goatheads on a section of these trails, so I wanted the best protection for worry-free riding. I had a fabulous six-day tour out and back on these trails and not a single puncture. The tires also handled a rainy, wet day on the trail with absolutely no problem - this width of tire cut into the top wet layer of crushed limestone with fabulous handling (while my touring partner's wider tires floated a bit on top, making his bike harder to handle). Fabulous worry-free tire that's perfect for touring on rail-trails.
Lower drag (gained 1 mph) compared to knobbies, and one of only few tires that fit on my existing rims. Worked well for driving on roads and packed gravel for a cross-country trek over the pass. Great for commuting to work as well.
Bought these while in Arizona to resist constantly getting flats from goat-heads. Since putting these on I've been flat free and can enjoy the ride instead of being on the side of the road fixing yet another flat. Will purchase again.
I say tough but smooth because where I live is desert country where mother nature's creations can turn into an obstacle, goat head thorns ,bougainvillea spikes, Palm fronds with shark like teeth along with the usual broken glass and nails and screws. Having a tire like this helps me to travel without much worry. I use my bike to carry what can be carried, loads of up to forty pounds. So because of these tires I feel I've gotten my money's worth and a smooth ride.
We ride Catrike 559 about 30 miles daily. The bikes came with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires and they have proven to be the best choice available. The tires provide long wear, good puncture resistance and a smooth ride. There are cheaper tires on the market, which I discovered during the supply chain problems, but you get what you pay for. I'll stick with Schwalbe.
I use these tires on all my bicycles. They lower the number of flats I encounter. Just the time savings of not having to fix as many flats make these tires a good investment. On a 2,400 mile fully loaded touring trip before I knew about these tires, I had 8 flats. On a similar trip the next year using these tires, I only had one flat. Because of their reliability, I no longer carry a spare tire with me when I take my bicycle on long distance tours. These are my standard every day tires. I highly recommend them.
I love these tires. I was getting flats twice a week from puncture vines and other thorns. I tried slime inner tubes, which were okay, but still not preventing flats. I needed something reliable since I am commuting to work. Also I have been riding in temperatures as low as -15C / 5F, and I really didn't want to be changing a tire in those conditions. I have now been riding on these tires for about a month and have not had any problems. They are completely worth the upfront cost. I also like the tread and the reflective band around the wheel. If it helps, I mostly ride on pavement, but I also live a short ways down a gravel road and these tires work just fine on gravel.
We installed the 26x1.75 tires on our DaVinci tandem in preparation for riding the C&O Canal. We were looking for a tire that would be good for the weight and service of a tandem on rough and uneven surfaces.
The tread is an aggressive touring type that should be good on a variety of surfaces.
We have not ridden the C&O yet, but we have been putting on some miles on rough roads and some dirt path trails with good result. The ride is smooth and stable.
Very pleased with this tire.
I have put over 300 miles on these tires with absolutely no problems. I am using them on an electric bike most on bike paths and streets. I highly recommend them to other e-bikers. Good traction and no flats, which I was getting on the bike's original equipment on the same terrain.
