Reviews
Great saddlebags so far - durable, easy to get on and off the rack.
The saddlebags proved themselves today with the first ride in a real rainfall.
Outside of the bag got plenty wet, but surface only - no soaking in, and the contents stayed completely dry.
These panniers were an upgrade from a cheaper REI double sided one that I used for a while. I found my old set wasn't keeping my clothes dry (I primarily use these for commuting) on rainy days and wanted a set I could use not only for commuting but bikepacking down the road. These are everything they say they are and then some. Very simple fool proof system for attaching to all of my bikes (a commuter gravel bike and a fat tire bike). They transfer easily due to the simplicity of the latch system. Also, the latch system is super durable. The material is extremely durable; it's sustained a couple decent wipeouts with minimal damage and is completely waterproof. Not a drop of water gets in. I kayak as well and the design is similar to my kayaking dry bags. The volume of material they hold is a huge upgrade as well. I'm able to fit everything I need for daily commuting in 1 of the bags. Great purchase, simple design and looking forward to years of heavy use out of these.
It is the opinion of so many that Ortlieb brand is trustworthy, reliable and the go to products when it comes to choosing amongst the many options in the market. Save yourself the guest work and without hesitation choose ORTLIEB like I did and so many others.
I purchased the Ortlieb Pannier for an up coming bike ride across the entire Katy Trail. I am using the pannier bags each and every time that I bike ride because I can carry everything I need like bug spray, sunscreen, extra water and so on with a lot of space left. The pannier bags are easy to attach to my bike rack and easy off too. I have purchased the Ortlieb Rack Pack to go along with the Ortlieb Panniers for my big bike ride later this fall on the Katy Trail!
I bought these panniers mostly for bikepacking, but also for some commuting/ grocery-getting around town. They are sturdy panniers, adjustable panniers with shoulder straps that also doubled as the tightening mechanism for the tops of the bags. The adjustable fixtures are made of hard, dense plastic, and the panniers material is thick while also being lightweight. Western Bike Works was also the only bike shop that seemed to carry these panniers in orange, and they were very competitively priced. I'd definitely shop here again.
Just starting in bike touring. Packed panniers for a long trip but only riding two days. Lots of room, easy to install and remove as needed. The ride was much rougher than expected but no problems with the panniers. (Not so much with my arms). No rain to contend with but lots of dust and my gear stayed clean. Will try on longer trip soon. Highly recommended!
I got these for my commuting bike and the only thing I can say about them is that they are amazing. The design is VERY good. Everything about them screams functional. I never worry about these coming off my bike. Completely waterproof as well so I don't have to worry about my laptop getting wet. There is a built in pocket in each pannier. It is too small for me to fit my laptop, but it is the perfect size for a tablet. There is also a mesh pocket that would be perfect to carry other smaller items. These panniers are also cavernous. I can fit my work clothes (button up, pants, belt, socks, shoes, etc.) in one pannier so I can put other clothing for weather in the other pannier, along with spare tubes, hand pump, and other bike tools needed for everyday commuting. I love these panniers!
These panniers are able to hold everything I need for commuting to work. Change of clothes, shoes, socks, rain jacket, etc. I am also able to carry a couple spare tubes, a multitool, tire levers in case I get a flat. They are completely waterproof and look great on my bike. I would certainly buy these again.
You can't go wrong with Ortlieb products and you'll see all the serious riders use their products. The Classic panniers are reliable for carrying heavy loads. The only improvement would be compression straps when they are not full.
These are simple, cavernous, waterproof panniers that get the job done. There is a small divider inside with a shallow zipper pocket. More organizational options would be nice, but these are the classics, designed with simplicity in mind. They adjust easily and mount to my rack quickly and securely. Mission accomplished.
I have some Ortlieb duffels that have held up beautifully for over 10 years. These panniers appear to keep that tradition alive. The installation can be very complex is you're looking for perfect fit, but the bags went straight onto to two of our bikes with no adjustment necessary. Nice and secure while you're riding. And the bright yellow is just another bonus for visibility. I got these for my teenage kids to use and they manage very well with them.
I appreciated that Western Bike Works had the widest variety of colors of Ortlieb Pannier set to choose from, in addition to the fairest price. The panniers themselves are great quality. I've already used them on a bike camping trips, and numerous other commutes. Would definitely recommend this Ortlieb Classic roller to anyone looking for sturdy, waterproof panniers.
Having used Ortlieb products for motorcycle trips many times in the past, I know that they're well made and designed, rugged, actually waterproof, and worth the extra $$ that they cost. These are no exception. Really nice. Heavy duty, extremely easy to slide onoff the rack, and plenty of space. Glad I didn't try to save a few bucks and get a cheaper model. In the long run, most of the time we basically pay for what we get, and these should last a long, long time.
I love my panniers. I was going to get a pair from another maker that was [$] cheaper, but the rugged quality of the Ortlieb material, including the hardware, their ease of use, classy good looks, and the fact that they are totally waterproof made my decision a no-brainer. I'm a serious commuter cyclist (I no longer own a car) and do everything by bike. My Ortlieb panniers make this possible and fun!
These panniers have made my life easier because prior to purchasing them I was using an old, small pannier that belonged to my son and I was constantly having to think hard about how to cram stuff into it. In contrast, my Ortliebs are roomy, totally waterproof (trust me on this, I live in Seattle) and very easy to place on and remove from my rack. I have to say that they look classy too (I ordered black because the black happened to be on sale) on my grey and blue cruiser. If I could change anything, I'd want the inside a vivid color because that would make it easy to identify what I need from the deep well of the bag. I'm a diehard cyclist (no more car!!!) and I even like the process of packing and loading the panniers up - it's kind of a Zen thing. I would recommend these to anybody who is committed to biking to the grocery store and to work. Plus, when you ride around with these, you're in a cycling club-I see riders with these great panniers all over the fab bike paths in Seattle!
Easy on/off, plenty of space for full week of gear, watertight and mounted easily to rack already on my bike! The outside strap cinches down the bag nicely and the optional handles on top are great for transporting off the bike, along with shoulder straps. Highly recommend.
