Description

Take on the next Backroad Adventure — Maxxis Rambler

The Maxxis Rambler Gravel is a high-performing tubeless tire ideal for the gravel racer and backroad adventurer.

This 700c gravel racing tire comes in either 60 TPI or 120 TPI casing options. Choose your own adventure with Dark Tan, Tan Wall, and Black sidewall options. The low-profile knobs grip on loose surfaces and still allowing for fast rolling performance. Dual-compound rubber increases speed and traction while keeping the tire tough and long-wearing.

Maxxis SilkShield is an exclusive protective material that offers protection from bead to bead. EXO puncture protection is an extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tires. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for exceptionally rocky, treacherous trails where the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions is high.

Features:

  • Dual compound
  • Tubeless Ready (TR)
  • 60 TPI or 120 TPI casing options
  • SilkShield or EXO puncture protection
  • Select sizes are available in Dark Tan sidewall, Tan Wall, and Black sidewall
  • Note: Tan walls or SilkShield/TR are 60 TPI

Love These Tires

I'm not a racer, but am instead looking for good safe traction with reliable cornering and grip - These tires up the confidence game so much on my gravel bike. Love them!

Pretty Tough Tubeless Tires for Mixed Gravel Rides

These worked well on the Ruby Roubaix. 38s don't float enough on soft, deep gravel, but everywhere else I was rolling well with little resistance at 35 PSI. I got a pinhole leak on the rear late in the ride but never noticed it! Then I saw some sealant on the bottom of the seat bag. You could reduce pressure but the ride was 50% hardpack dirt or good pavement.

Got these installed new on a Lauf true grit. I've ridden the bike for a week (about 115 miles) and both tires have blown out on totally separate rides, necessitating tubes to get me home (one a top tread puncture that didn't plug with sealant the other a very small sidewall pinch that I didn't notice at all until I looked down and saw sealant oozing out of the tire). I'm not huge (180lbs), didn't ride these over fields of glass, and haven't had any issues with the other gravel tires I've used extensively the last couple years (mostly gravelkings), and while I run Maxxis on my MTB, I think these are the weakest gravel tires I've yet ridden on and won't be looking at Maxxis for gravel in the future. The rubber is very soft and the sidewalls weak from my very limited experience on them. If you stay on pavement, or hardpack, you may be fine, but I fear any rougher gravel may be too much for these in many cases. Playing with pressure, when at about 35-38psi, these were bouncy and slippery on loose gravel, and when deflated and run at 27-32psi, they are mush, but grip a little better as long as you're riding straight. It's unfortunate as I'm having to replace both tires on a brand new bike that wasn't cheap. I would not suggest these tires at all, but of course, ymmv.

A fair amount of weeping on the sidewalls using Orange Seal but once totally sealed, the tires run very smooth and fast on pavement and dirtgravel. Coming from a 32mm filetread, these in 38 add a lot of comfort. So far only a few hundred miles, been very happy with these tire!

Nice gravel tire

While I had them, these were a great tire (the bike they were on was stolen so I only had a couple months of riding on them). They are great on gravel and roll really smoothly on pavement for a high volume gravel tire. They're not super light, but light enough for what they are designed for. I never had any punctures and they sealed up nice and reliably tubeless on Stan's rims. I'll get them again once I get my next gravel setup going.

Ive ridden the Ramblers for several years on hard and loose packed gravel. They have great traction, hold to the surface well, but if they do lose grip they recover quickly. I have periodically tried other great tires, but always go back to the Ramblers.

Nice tire and really nice looking but didn't quite fit my Trek Domane SL5. It rubbed on the rear dropouts.

I think the tire was fine but the 38's were just a bit too big and the lugs were rubbing the frame. Ended up swapping with my son who had some 35 gravel tires and that made us both happy.

Great gravel tire

Ive been running Ramblers for a couple of seasons now. They have proved to be very tough with great traction.

Seem to role fast on gravel or pavement.

On my DT Swiss wheels, they are easy to get on/off and easy to seat.

Bought for gravel but have been using on pavement - LOVE

These were recommended to me by someone I trust, and they have turned out to be great. They are my first tubeless tire, and have performed well. Unfortunately, I have yet to ride them on gravel! I've been using them (38mm) with my 1x cross bike on pavement, and they roll fast and comfortably. Hope to finally get in some gravel next week. Such an improvement over the stock cross tire, and quiet and cushy.

My Favorite Gravel Tire Still My Favorite

Since these tires came out, I have raced, trained, and just had pure fun on these. Tires keep evolving and I try them, but I keep coming back to the Ramblers. I have great traction on gnarly dirt roads, there is no change in tread so corning is smooth, and I have no problem with these slowing me down on paved roads. These are definitely not road tires but they roll just fine. I ride my gravel bike on lots of single track and these tires float over roots and rocks. I only take these off my rims when I wear a tire out. I have never had a flat as I run tubeless. Over the years the tread has not changed but the sidewall quality has! Why change perfect.

Go to Gravel Tire- 100mile and 100K midwest gravel

Love the 40m Ramblers. The first set was bought about 2 weeks before the first DUSTBOWL gravel event in Indiana in 2021, about 70 of 100 miles of "driveway" gravel, this isn't Flint Hills sharp stuff, but it's got some volume... Tires were PERFECT! Ran them between 36-40 psi.

I rode those tires the rest of the season. When cold and wet conditions threatened the Rough Road 100k I decided to run them for that event too. Probably didn't need the tread for the mostly road event, but when the rain hit on a 9 mile dirt trail section, I was much more confident with more grip, rode them through last spring. Overall I put about 2000-2200 miles on them, rotating them once, ZERO flats, ZERO issues... perfect. The tread is pretty worn now, keeping them as backups. New pair is coming.
