Description

Meet The New Forekaster

The new Maxxis Forekaster is the "Goldilocks" downcountry tire you've been waiting for to speed you away on both the uphills and downhills.

The original Forekaster was designed as a wet weather option for XC, while this new version is aimed squarely at modern short travel (100mm-130mm) trail bikes. The new Forekaster rolls fast but also provides solid cornering and braking traction in a broad range of trail conditions. Riders looking for a middleweight option can find here a lighter and faster-rolling tire than a Minion but with more predictable cornering, climbing, and braking traction than a Rekon or other XC tire.

Features:

  • Front or rear
  • 60 TPI
  • Available in 29 x 2.4 or 29 x 2.6"
  • Dual compound or 3C MaxxTerra options
  • EXO sidewall protection
  • Tubeless Ready (TR)
  • Claimed weight of 945g

Using this as a rear tire on my hardtail. The tread pattern provides predictable traction in most conditions, especially compared to the previous version of the Forekaster. Highly recommend!

I use this on my LT trail bike (Stumpy EVO) for the local XC and BDiamond tech trails, works just fine. When I travel to more knarley MTB destinations I swap to downhill tire.

The new Forekaster is a good all around tire, though I prefer it for use on the front of a light trail bike. It is a bit costly as most Maxxis tires are. Mounted on 30mm ID rims the 2.40WT measures almost exactly 2.3". The 2.6 measures 2.5". For a wide front tire the 2.6 works better for my style of initiating and holding turns. Neither are too round a profile.
