Comfort, breathability, and performance all knit into one.

Engineered for off-road performance without skimping on comfort, the Giro Empire™ VR70 Knit is unlike any mountain bike shoe you've ever seen. It features Giro's new engineered Xnetic™ Knit upper, which offers unparalleled comfort and breathability, with a bonded TPU exoskeletal system to provide support where it's needed most. The upper is DWR-treated for water repellency and easy cleaning, while a rubber toe guard and bonded TPU heel increase durability and abrasion resistance. A closed stretch-knit ankle cuff provides superior comfort, additional support and protection from scree out on the trail. All of this is built on top of a stout Easton® EC70 carbon fiber sole that offers pro-level stiffness, and a tough, molded Vibram® rubber outsole that provides protection and grip when you're off the bike.

The Giro Empire VR70 Knit is compatible with 2-bolt cleats.

  • DWR-treated Xnetic™ Knit upper offers unparalleled comfort, breathability, and water resistance.
  • Closed stretch-knit ankle cuff keeps trail debris out.
  • Traditional lace-up closure with Empire laces.
  • Easton® EC70 carbon fiber sole with molded Vibram® rubber outsole for optimal stiffness and traction.
  • Claimed weight: 380 grams.

Comfortable shoe BUT.......
by AnAmerican111
Cycling Enthusiast

1) Shoe soaks up water due to the knit material

2) Metal eyelets for laces have all poppedbroken from shoelace holes after couple hundred miles of wear. One of the eyelets cutting the shoelace in the process

Verdict- Even at the $ I paid they don't seem to worth it based on the show falling apart.

At full price of $ plus they would be deemed an awful deal.

Great shoe - One GIGANTIC problem
by Volldemort
Competitive Racer

Giro did so many great things with this shoe that I love - the fit, comfort, style, stiffness, and price are all 5 stars.

BUT The lugs on the side treads are not tall enough to touch the ground once SPD cleats are installed! Traction, whats that? Imagine walking around with giant ice cubes strapped to the balls of your feet. A basic requirement for a MTB shoe being able to walk without risking ones life (or ankles).

Is this common to all Giro MTB shoes these days? Im just wondering if Im late to the party ,)

Shoes are great overall haven't had the opportunity to take them out in the rain yet so can't add on water resistance. Mine did not come with arch support so i don't know how those are like had them for about 3 months haven't ripped or torn. I have only been in one accident where i flipped over my bars they barely scratched and i switch from road to fixed
