An unprecedented balance of quickness, durability, and lightness.

For a one-wheelset quiver, there's no better option than the ENVE SES 4.5 Carbon Clincher Wheelset. Its 48 mm / 56 mm front and rear depths bridge a middle ground between ENVE's shallower 3.4 and deeper 6.7 models for a wheelset that excels all around. This model, like others in the SES range, was developed independently in the wind tunnel to create an ideal profile that gives the best performance possible. In fact, the 4.5 has the best lateral stiffness of any SES wheelset.

A molded-in, textured braking surface means a seamless transition that easily slips through the wind, along with providing increased heat management and improved modulation over the previous generation's smooth brake track. The result is up to 30% better braking performance and more consistent stopping power in both wet and dry conditions. This same molded-in technique is also used for the spoke and valve holes for a smooth aero shape and higher strength.

Making this SES 4.5 wheelset all the more spectacular is ENVE's own full-carbon hubset. Typically, hub flanges made of carbon fiber would be too weak to handle the myriad stresses from spokes under tension, but ENVE's unrivaled knowledge and ability when it comes to working with carbon fiber has resulted in a one-piece design that is carbon from flange to flange. Spoke holes that are molded-in instead of drilled out increase the hubs' strength to withstand ENVE's demanding lab and field testing, even with the entire hubset weighing just 232 g. While the experts at ENVE have handled the carbon, they've let the experts at DT Swiss handle the internals and left it up to the wizards at Ceramic Speed to provide the bearings. Such high-level collaboration was the only choice to have the speed, strength, and reliability to match up with ENVE's superior fabrication.

This wheelset includes quick release skewers, carbon brake pads, and 39 mm valve extensions.

27 mm wide front rim / 25.5 mm wide rear rim. 20 hole front / 24 hole rear. Claimed wheelset weight is 1479 g.

Fast wheel on the flats and excellent climbing too. Smooth ceramic bearings. Has little flex left right for a 170 lbs. rider.

I have been riding these wheels for over a year. They perform well on ascents of the local canyons in Utah, the low weight and medium dish fly on the uphill. Making up time or drafting on the flats is where I really noticed the the 4.5's were a step above the wheels I was riding previously ( HED Jet 4). Although these wheels can slay it all, where they performed best was on the descents! Having stability you can trust while zooming down a canyon and knowing that when a turn comes you can trust the tracking of the wheels and really get into the turns. The 4.5's have just enough dish to feel the aero effects, but not enough that is catches cross winds. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a performance wheel set that can do it all.
