Reviews
Copper-plated brass resonates loudly enough to warn walkers and runners. Spring-loaded clapper lets you modulate volume with a gentle ping or urgent clang. The iconic design is a hallmark of classic touring cyclists and committed commuters. Safety and bling in an understated, Japanese design. Nothing better.
I think the sound is very clear and resonant. It is more attractive than the non-brass version. I hope it ends up being more resistant to corrosion because I have had several others of this bell in the non-brass version, and all of them are showing signs of rust. This one is a month old, and it looks great, but it is also too early to tell. Simple metal parts connect to medium handlebars. They would not fit a very fat handlebar.
I've had the brass Crane bell for years, on all my bikes. It has a lovely clear tone and a lot of sustain. I play percussion and really appreciate the sound quality. People look pleased when alerted to a bike passing close to them with this lovely bell. I have an EBike that goes 28MPH so I made sure to get this bell, even tho my bike has a built in horn. When my friend got his new EBike I gifted him with this bell and he loves it. Bonus: you can show support for BLM or other demos by ringing it!
Crane is an established company and makes quality products. This is not the cheapest bell you can buy, but it screams elegance and style! A marvelous, noticeable tone and long decay make it a classic accessory to your ride. Easy to install and versatile in terms of location- you can put it on your handlebars or stem, right or left hand. Glad I bought it!
Beautiful, large brass bell with a pleasant (and loud) ring. Very well made (in Japan), the tone resonates for a long time. Be aware that this is a relatively large and shiny brass bell (not at all stealthy), but it works well, I enjoy owning it, and expect it to last well beyond my lifetime. Highly recommended.
Retro good looks and no tarnish copper finish combined with authoritative sound will get you noticed on trails crowded with earbud-wearing hobby cyclists and walkers. If you replace the metal clip with a strong rubber band (slice of inner tube works great), the bell goes on and off in seconds, saving yourself embarrassment at the Saturday hammer ride.
I'm a musician and can say that this bell really sings out! Nice midrange ring (no tinky tinky toy sounds!)that carries and well and sustains for a long time. I like the retro styling and the quality of construction is first rate.
This bell looks great (brass version), but more importantly, it sounds great. Loud, pleasant ring with long after-tone. Easily attached to handlebar with sturdy mounting clamp.
The long term durability of the finish is still unknown but should fare well with basic care.
The sound is as good as you would expect from a large diameter, copper bell. The volume is easy to modulate with the spring loaded striker. The mounting bracket will accomodate any bar size. The max volume is as loud as I would want on a multiple use path. A for looks!
I picked this bell, mostly because I thought that my son who rides in a baby seat attached to the steerer tube would like it. He is very excited about it and I understand why. The copper is very shiny, and it has a very nice sound, loud enough to be heard but not obtrusive or obnoxious. The bell feels like it is very solidly built and the copper will hopefully weather nicely.
