Continental's Flagship Road Tire in an Ultra-Grippy Tubeless Edition

Continental's Grand Prix 5000 TL Road Tire is a high-performing, all-rounder, tubeless road tire featuring even better versions of Black Chili tread compound and tear-resistant Vectran Breaker technology, as well as two new technologies: Lazer Grip and Active Comfort.

Lazer Grip technology delivers more cornering traction from day one - no break-in time required - thanks to its micro profile structure - little laser-drilled holes - that reach over the shoulder of the tire. Integrated into the 3-ply/180tpi casing, Active Comfort technology provides stiffness in the sidewall and flexibility under the tread for greater vibration dampening and excellent ride comfort.

The tubeless GP5000 offers even more speed, durability, and comfort than the clincher version, with 5% less rolling resistance, 5% more puncture protection, and lower tire pressure.

Features:

  • All-rounder & high-performance.
  • Active Comfort & Lazer Grip technologies.
  • Black Chili tread compound.
  • Vectran Breaker puncture protection.
  • Foldable bead.
  • 3-ply/180tpi casing.
  • Weight: 370g (700x32), 345g (x28), 300g (x25).

Awesome tire, hard to install

Tires are awesome, they are wearing down a bit quickly, I've put around 800 miles on them and the rear tire is getting a bit flat on the contact surface, I've seen 4 and 3 small punctures on the tires respectively it is unsure if they made it all the way in as I have not seen a significant decrease in tire pressure. The tires do drop 10-15 psi every 2-3 days, I'm inflating them to 100psi and using stans racing sealant. This tire does it seem to have a lot of life, the wear dimples seem pretty shallow. Lastly these tires were difficult to install. Overall a great tire, only time will tell how they wear vs what I've seen.

Impressive (but not easy to set up)

I was hesitant to trust tubeless on the road but it's been pretty bomb proof. One puncture that wouldn't seal (a slice, really) in over 10K km of riding. Those are far better results than I expected. I feel like these wore more quickly than the 4000/4000s clinchers I've used the past few seasons, but I'll trade that for the dependability, traction and overall excellent performance. Mounting these on my ENVE 5.6 rims was brutal. So much so that when I sliced that tire, I took it to a shop to install the new one (and, while they did it in about 15 mins, they commented that it was really tough to do). So 5 stars for riding performance minus a star for being so tough to mount.

ber gription, YES STICKY (even in wet conditions), tough (used on road, small aggregate fire road, easy single track...so far), available in tubeless model (this is the model I'm writing about), NOT SUPER light but acceptable, mounted relatively easy BY HAND and pumped up with REGULAR floor pump, with NO sealant, on a 2015 Reynolds Blacklabel 29er XC wheelset (I did add sealant post mounting...why tempt fate). I've never been a big Continental fan but this tire has changed my mind, at least for this model 5000 TL 32mm

Fast rolling, superior handling, excellent tire

Having just moved to tubeless, I wanted a fast rolling, yet durable tire. Research shows the 5000 TL is one of the fastest on the market today. Having previously ridden its tubed predecessor, a 25mm GP 5000, I knew Conti made a quality tire, yet it always felt stiff. I left that model for the buttery smooth ride of a 28mm Vittoria Corsa with skin walled cotton casing. Now I'm back to Conti for a 25mm GP 5000 TL. Set up tubeless, as it is intended, this tire strikes the balance it's fast, it's got incredible grip through corners, and it rolls really nice as well. It is not as supple as cotton casing, but a racier feel that is still comfy. I'm 5'9, 150lb, & run the tires 75psi front & 90 back, with a full Stan's set up.

Fast rolling & flat-free

Made the switch to tubeless about a year ago with these and was not disappointed. Fast rolling and NO flats. The rear tire went 3200 miles before showing casing; I've changed it out. The original front tire is still going with the dimple wear marks looking fine. Overall: fast, grippy, & a bit stiff, but no complaints since no flats.

I use these tires on an endurance bike (Giant, Defy, Adavanced 2), which is probably not as "fast" or responsive as traditional road/racing bikes. But these tires have helped me keep up with others.

GP5000 TL don't fit Mavic Pro UST wheelset

I have been a fan of Continental 4 Season tires for years and years, commuted with them year 'round . So, when I went tubeless, I choose the Conti GP5000 TLs. Unfortunately, these do not fit on Mavic Pro UST wheel sets. Trust me, I tried all the tricks for hours and 2 different bike shops also tried without success. These GP5000 TLs simply don't fit. Extremely disappointed.

I tried to run these Tubeless on Bontrager Rims. Me and then 4 people at local bike shop couldn't get them on. I would say the fault is 5050. Half the fault of the rim and half the fault of the tire. I wanted to go tubeless because I always ripped a sidewall on the 4000's long before they were done. Essentially I had to buy 3 tires to get the normal 2500 miles out of two of the 4000's.

Extremely fast tires, but difficult install
rating

These GP5000 TL tires are notorious for being difficult to install on your rim and there was no difference in my case. I ended up needing to use a combination of tie wraps and tire levers to get the last bit of the bead over the edge of the rim.

One out of the two tires inflated and held pressure just fine (especially after adding tubeless sealant). Despite adding sealant to the other tire, I had to reseat it to get it to seal without leaking.

After everything was good to go, I took it out on my first ride and WOW these tires are fast. After a couple hundred miles of road and some mild gravel mixed in, no issues with durability or punctures so far (knock on wood).

I have a pair of these mounted on Enve 3.5 wheels. To begin with, the tires were extremely hard to install. I have installed many tubeless (Hutchinson, Schwalbe, Vittoria, and these Conti's). These tires were by far the hardest (Schwalbes the easiest). So, if I ever get a flat where I need to need insert a tube instead of a plug, etc., I will probably call my wife or hitch home. That being said, the tires are fast and hold air very well. They grip well and feel good on hard, sharp turns. I probably have 1000+ miles, and I have noticed a few nicks and cuts, but tread wear seems to be minor, better than Schwalbes, but worse than Hutchinsons.

After 1,200 miles on this most recent set of tires. Most of the miles have been over the winter and this spring, lots of debris on the side of the roads. I can't tell you how many people I have passed on the side of the road fixing flats, not me. These Continental Grand Prix 5000 TL Road Tires do not get flats. I used to be that guy, I'd get 4 or 5 flats a year. After getting ENVE 3.4 tubeless rims and these Continental Grand Prix 5000 TL Road Tires (I ran the 4000's before these) I haven't had a flat in over two years and 12,000 miles. The ride is more compliant and the handling is the best.

The Best Tubeless So Far!

I've tried multiple brands of tubeless or tubeless ready tires and mounting them and getting them to seal can be very frustrating-not so with the Continental Grand Prix 5000 TL. I've mounted 6 of them on various bikes and they have sealed & inflated every time the first time that I tried. Perhaps not quite as cushioned as other brands but their resistance to flats is excellent. They also seem to be more long-wearing than many of the other TL or TLR brands. Grip is also excellent! It's the best tubeless I've encountered so far!

Tread pealing off after ~ 500 miles. Tread dots still show there should be life in the tires

Perhaps its a defective tire - the front is looking good, but the rear is losing a significant piece of rubber right in the center of the tread. They were easy to get on, seal and have been great up until now. Didnt even need a special pump or my compressor - just a normal bike pump and the beads popped right on. Wish I could find them in stock somewhere; but might have to look at another brand and/or site. Supply chains seem to be a problem everywhere right now.

Mounted tubeless with a floor pump!

Previously I rode the GP 5000 tubed version and the GP 4000 before that. I had good experiences with both and got good mileage, low rolling resistance and good handling.

I had bought a pair of GP 5000 TL 700x32 and had been saving them for when the GP 5000 tubed version wore out. Recently I decided not to wait any longer and mounted them to my Belgian Plus rims. Using my Kool Stop Tire Bead Jack and a little soapy water, the tires popped right on. I usually use a Schwalbe Tire Booster for tubeless but decided to try my old floor pump first. Surprisingly the tire started inflating immediately without sealant and held pressure at 75psi. I opened the valve stem and added some Orange Seal and I'm done.

So far the tires are great and at least as nice as the GP5000 with latex tubes. I'm looking forward to working out the tire pressures and getting some longer rides in. Mine measure just under 33mm on the Belgium Plus rims. My GP 5000 tubed grew to about 34mm.

Fitted 2019 Continental Grand Prix 5000 TL Road Tires to Bontrager Aeolus 2 tubeless ready rims. 28 mm. Went on with no problems, just a little lever action at the end. Seated well with no issues. I use an air compressor but imagine a hand pump would have done the trick. Used Orange sealant and no leaks. Holds air well. Roles smooth and corners fine. Holding up with 400 miles ridden so far under road conditions with lots of debris due to FallWinter season. No real cuts or abnormal wear. I run at about 65 psi but am not a lightweight.

My bike came with the GP4000 which were great tires but mounted wider than marked width. These updated 5000 are just as great and in my experience mount truer to marked width. I'm running the 32s at 65-72PSI and I'm 220LBS. They definitely wear out quick running them that low but running tubless at the pressure makes the ride relatively plush. I like to experiment with different tires and have branched out to different brands, nothing is as consistently "good".

These are the best tire that I've used on my Trek Madone. They grip very good in the corners at hi speed and you don't need to worry about if you're going to lose traction. These are German made and it shows. Unlike some of the other tires out there that come from the Asian market. The only problem I've had was getting these tires from the manufacturer I had to wait almost 5 months to receive this tires. But, they were worth the wait.

The most durable and long lasting 700x25 tubeless tire

Have been riding road tubeless for 10+ years. After trying Hutchinson, Schwalbe, Vittoria, and a few others, nothing, absolutely nothing, compares to the durability, ride quality, and mileage these tires provide. Other tires can be slightly more supple, such as the Schwalbe and Vittoria, but the Continental 5000 TL have given me far greater puncture protection and 3 times the mileage as any of the other's at least 2500 to 3000 miles of dependable riding on average to very poor and rough road conditions (I average 800-900 miles per month). Not the lightest tire, nor the cheapest, and their popularity has made them difficult to find in stock from time to time. If you want a great performing durable and long lasting road tubeless tire, you should seriously consider this tire.
