I rarely require a full face helmet, but like having the ability to throw the chinbar on for those few rides a year where it's needed. The helmet is not the most comfortable on my head (I'm a pretty ovular and oddly shaped head to be fair) and luckily I've not had to rely on the helmet's protective durability yet. As a standard helmet, it seems a bit ill fitting and isn't the lightest. As a full face, it is nice to have the protection, but can't speak to it's performance (thankfully). Once done a few times to figure it out, the ease in removing and refitting the chinbar is greatly appreciated and easy to do without taking the helmet off making for a nice situation if wanting to remove for climbs, et al. Overall, it provides a decent value for those looking for a dual purpose/removable chinbar helmet, and if like me you don't need a full face too often, it can be a nice addition to your helmet quiver but I don't use it as my primary personally due to the fit on my head.

Just like the Super 2R but waaaaaaaaay better fitcomfort

Like many, I bought a Super 2R MIPS helmet because I wanted the option of running a chin bar for more gravity oriented riding. My head shape is oval-ish and I fall on the bigger side of Bell's Medium sizing. Because of the well known pressure pointshot spots with the Super 2R in Medium, I had to replace it with a Large, which solved the pressure point problem but was otherwise too big for my head.

Fast forward to the release of the Super 3R, which Bell purportedly designed with an improved fit. On a whim, I bought one from WBW in a Medium. I am happy to report that it fit me perfectly and the helmet in Medium is very comfortable. The Float Fit is a welcome improvement over the old (and clunky) TAG fit system and has been reliable so far. I sold my Large Super 2R on eBay...

The only downsides of this helmet are its relative weight and ventilation. Without the chin bar, the Super3R weighs a good 100g more than a POC Tectal Race (which does not have MIPS). Even though the Super3R has plenty of vents and internal air channels, the MIPS liner effectively blocks the air from flowing over your head.

Overall, I'd say this helmet is an excellent choice for all mountain riding and would recommend it to anyone looking for a single helmet to handle their MTB needs.

Bought this for my 11 y/o. We're getting him into some more serious riding, and having the ability to remove the full face/convert to a standard mips helmet has been awesome. Two helmets in one. It's pretty light weight compared to our other kid's Smith Mainline which of course doesn't have the ability to remove the chin bar. The Smith has the koroyd plastic honeycomb layer deal, which may or may not make a difference for high impact. That, I'm not sure about, but for the kiddos who aren't charging like a world tour rider yet, the savings in weight, being lower profile and having the two in one makes this better for our needs. Would buy this Bell over the Smith if having to choose between the two again, personally.

Use mostly as a half-shell, but when I need full face this thing converts so easy... awesome air flow. Best helmet out there IMO.

I use this helmet in both downhill and trail riding. The removable chin bar is great so I didn't have to buy 2 helmets.

Use this when mountain biking and gravel. Like the ability to remove the chin guard while climbing, or when gravel grinding the entire ride. But have the additional safety of protecting my face on the downhills.

This helmet fits great. I had to remove the extra padding in the chin bar to fit my skull. The only issue I have with it is that the bite valve from my Osprey hydration system doesn't fit too well underneath it. May need to rethink my bite valve.

After watching my 6 year old son take a horrific fall in the local pump track we upgraded to full face helmets for the entire family. I've also had nagging jaw alignment issues after a spill years ago and decided it's worth having a little extra protection. This helmet converts quickly so I ride uphill without the face mask and strap it on for the descents. I mostly ride single track trails in the Truckee/Tahoe/Reno area. It wouldn't be my first choice for the Northstar Downhill Park but for anything you pedal up this helmet's ideal.
