The SL Speed Stem is fashioned from unidirectional carbon and titanium for an impressive 18 gram weight savings over Zipp's already lightweight aluminum model. The resulting design weighs in just 102 grams (claimed weight in the 100mm length) without giving up the strength and rigidity essential in any competitive scenario.
Rearward-facing bolts thread directly into the faceplate to minimize weight, while the bottom edge of the clamp is design to contact the body of the stem in order to reduce flexing. Self-aligning washers at the steerer clamp mean that the bolt stays straight as it’s tightened, reducing long-term stress on the system.
