Sidi Dominator 5 MTB Shoe

This is my first clip in cycling shoe and WOW I was impressed. From the first day I put these on they fit like a glove!

I couldn't be happier with the product and the superb service I received from Western Bikes Works (they even played with my dog while I was shopping!). A great experience - I am definately going back!

Shoes fit perfectly right out of the box. Predictable connection torelease from pedals every time. Feet may get cold during winter rides when shoes get wet, so wool socks are used to mitigate the issue.

This product works well for XC and general all-mountain riding (and probably Cyclocross as there is an optional area to screw in two front cleats (sadly not included with the expensive purchase). The shoe is comfortable and tru to the sidi sizing and adjustable with ease. This shoe is not waterproof or water resistant which even in the rather dry San Diego area causes some discomfort when the rare puddle andor muddy crossing comes into play. After two rides and two bales the shoe is exhibiting a bit more ware than a similar version of the road shoe. The leather toe area could use more reinforcement as it is showing signs of fraying and the plastic bas of the shoe is showing signs of wear much earlier than I would have ever anticipated. In this regard I will be exploring options for other shoes that are either half the cost with the same ware time or twice the price for interchangabale bottom features. When shoes start to get into the 3 and about $ range though I really start to question the return vs upgrading other parts of my bike and taking a shoe that is cheaper and equal in durability. Anyway other than what is appearing to be a decrease in shoe quality in terms of longevity I still adore the comfort and feel of these shoes.

I switched from Candy 2s which in my experience did not seem to work very well with this shoe to Shimano Deore Mt Bike Pedals. If you do use these with Crank Bros you will need to buy an additional piece- a shim -like piece from Sidi so that the shoes will remain under warranty (again this shim is something for the price that should be included with the shoe) andor purchase the Crank Bros Cany 3 reinforcement plate (which is of a superior quality to the Sidi reinforcing place which looks like it was a home-made piece of work.
