Description
The budget-friendly Shimano 105 Rear Derailleur gets an update for better compatibility with wide range cassettes. This 5700A model now wraps up to a 30t cog in both the short and mid cage versions, so you can conquer the hills with ease.
Like its predecessor, this newest 105 derailleur borrows features from Dura-Ace and Ultegra for crisper shifting even under load. A wider outer link offers increased stiffness for more precise gear changes and greater durability, and Shimano's large 11-tooth pulleys with sealed bearings run smoother and quieter than ever. Compatible with all Shimano 10-speed shifters.
The RD-5700A-S is available in Short Cage (SS) or Mid Cage (GS) models. Silver.
Short Cage (SS): 30t max cog; 16t max chainring difference; 33t wrap capacity
Medium Cage (GS): 30t max cog; 22t max chainring difference; 39t wrap capacity

A fellow cyclist told me about this store and product, said I should give it a try. At the time I was using an XT mountain bike derailleur with an 11-32 cassette and compact crank. I wanted lower gearing wo going to a triple. I followed my friend's lead and purchased the RD-5700A-S. The look on my mechanic's face when I told him I wanted to go to an 11-34 cassette and use a road derailleur was priceless. The RD-5700A-S shifts much better than the XT, and just as well as an Ultegra unit. Smooth, spot on shifting, no missed gears here. My mechanic was totally surprised at the performance of this road derailleurmountain bike cassette combo. He did advise against cross chaining (big ring front with large cog on the rear) suggested switching to the 11-32 cassette as the best set up for reliabilitydurability. I totally enjoy this set up. I can climb just about anything now wo the need of a granny gear. Forgot to mention that the RD-5700A-S is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye than the XT mountain bike derailleur for sure!
