I have both the Monkey Light and HokeySpokes - a competitor product. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
On the Monkey Lectric Monkey Light
Pros-
-super visible LEDs, even in full sun, you can see them!
-amazing rainbow colors, definitely full spectrum
-programmable
-easy to mount, easy to change batteries
-durable in regular day-to-day use
-batteries last a long time in it
-brings a smile to people's faces-even car drivers
-really ups your visibility factor, esp. at night
-looks cool even at slow speeds, but really wows at high speeds - 15 mph and up
Cons-
-battery case is not 100% waterproof. Be careful if you wash your bike, go through puddles, or hit a bad rainshower. Rear wheels get a lot more schmutz, so consider mounting this on a front wheel.
-salt creep from salted, snowy roads killed my first MonkeylIght. - note I ride year round in Chicago
-if you buy just one, you will not get as good an effect as if you buy two for one wheel - even though they will have different patterns
-multiple units can't talk to each other - like Hokey spokes can
-I can definitely feel the wheel wobble when it's mounted, makes it hard to true a wheel. Your best bet is to remove it for truing, then remount the light after.
-adds a small but noticeable amount of weight to a bike due to the batteries... not a problem if you are just riding it, but something to consider if you have to carry your bike up stairs or onto public transit, etc.
