Many other trail shoes are simply modified road shoes and can be overbuilt to the point that they become miniature assault vehicles for your feet. Inov-8 shoes provide a wholly different experience by keeping your heel closer to the ground, your feet cool with their incredible breathability and a featherweight, barefoot feel that makes you wonder if you're wearing shoes at all.
When choosing a size for an Inov-8 shoe, please keep in mind that they run small. If you normally wear a women's 8, for example, in another running shoe, you will probably want an 8.5. If you like a roomy toe box, occasionally wear an 8.5, or wear thick socks, you'd probably do best with a 9. The forefoot area of the RocLite 312 shoes is very slightly wider than the 318s or the 345s.
