Crud Catcher ZX Front Fender

The crud catcher is a great, light weight fender for wet weather. It stops the primary wheel spray from getting in face and bike. It does not provide the coverage of a full fender set but is adequate for it's purpose.

It's great for catching crud at relatively SLOW speeds. But I failed to foresee that if you're cruising at 15 MPH the spray will go forward of the bike and then hit your face in the end anyways. Also due to geometry it won't keep your feet dry. I had this mounted on a Trek 8.3 DS hybrid.

Overall easy installation and good quality and would prove useful for me if riding on muddy trails where you're generally going slower.

I spent a number of weeks this past winter getting completely hammered with mud and dirt flying up in my face and all over my front as I rode through Forest Park every weekend in inclement weather. Having never used a front fender before I was unconvinced it would offer much, but I have to say the Crud Catcher was surprisingly very helpful and I've been substantially cleaner ever since. Simple, cheap, easy to install and after a dozen or more rides seems quite reliable. I'd recommend it.

I got this for my fixed gear bike for occasional wet riding. After I got it however, I realized that it does not work with my bike's tight geometry (barely an inch between the front tire and the frame, doh!). The part of the fender that curves down towards the front tire hits the tire if the wheel is turned full tilt to left or right. If I were motivated enough, I could take some tin shears and cut off the extra fender material and make it work. The design is simple enough, easy to fasten and remove, just make sure your bike has enough wheel clearance.
