Since I started racing a few years ago, my cycling budget has always been an issue. As far as tires go, I think this is the best clincher for the dollar out there. I still believe that the Michelin Pro3's ride and handle better than these Continental's. However, the Michelin Pro3's will maybe last a couple thousand miles max, and they are not very puncture proof. Whereas, I have easily put 5000 miles on Continental GP 4000 S tires, without rotating or puncturing on everything from Vermont dirtpot-hole roads to littered roads in NJ to newly laid road. I weigh 175 in the winter and 165 in the summer. Is the S worth it? Absolutely, for a few extra dollars the 4000 S tires ride significantly better than the 4000 tires, and, in my experience, little compromise on reliability. My only gripe is that the 4000 S tires do not handle as well as the Pro3's, but I can't really afford to replace tires more than a few times a year. Overall, they are the best tire for the dollar.
